Excellent spin, good distance, but very strange feel off of club head. "double hit/click" as the soft exterior layers compress down to the hard center. My guess is that only the longest of hitters would experience this....otherwise, worth a try

Great ball, almost as good as the Pro V1, without the price or herd mentality.

Purchased a three ball sleeve along with a three ball sleeve of Titleist Pro V1.

Alternated holes between the two brands. The Pro V1 did slightly better in my mind but not worth the difference in price. Ball didn't scale (A problem I have with balls, especially balata and Strata Tour Pro) and the one shot I hit thin didn't cut or crease the cover. Ball went back in the bag for the next round.

This ball is the second best combination of distance, spin, and durability out there (Pro V1 did slightly better). You get good spin and feel like a balata ball yet don't sacrifice much distance.

Ratings (And ball which is the best in that category)

Driver Distance 9 (Strata Tour Pro)
Long Iron Distance 8 (Strata Tour Pro)
Wedge Distance 9 (Strata Tour Pro)
Long Iron Spin 9 (Titleist Professional)
Wedge Spin 9 (Titleist Tour Balata)
Chip Spin & Feel 9 (Pro V1
Putt Feel 10
Durability 10
Overall 9.5

Club Face Hangtime: No one ever talks about it but I believe it plays a major factor in how well you golf.

I believe that new modern drivers with thin faces and a trampoline effect response require a different golf ball.

The Strata and the Pro-V1 offer that. Using my Ping TiSi driver I have noticed a significant difference that these two balls offer over almost any others.

Accuracy and lack of side spin are very, very good. Putting is terrific.

I use the Stratas on hard pack courses with fast greens.

See if you notice a difference on their lag time on the face of the club. I did.

A little bit softer than PRO V1 and better in chipping, pitching & putting than PRO V1 but with PRO V1 you can get a little bit longer drives, but in my opinion, one of the very best balls in market today.

The ball performed well overall. Distance is good, but 5 yrds shorter on drives than V1s for me. Spin is good, comparable to Tour Accuracy or Professionals. Short touch shots were rather good for a compromise ball---the Ultimate has a nice soft feel and seems to chip very precisely. Performance was always at least acceptable compared to all other top balls.

I can't really complain about the performance of this ball. So I'll complain about everything else. :-) First of all, durability is bad, almost as bad as Tour Balatas. These balls cut, they scuff, they chip and they peel. At $3 a ball I expect to be able to play a ball for a full 9 holes. These are unlikely to make it. Second complaint, the look of these balls is, uh, highly distinctive. Some cynics might even call them.... ugly. I will admit that it is easy to tell which ball is yours when you use these. But that's because Ultimates have a bizarre pumpkin colored logo and writing. I realize that it must be tough to find a original color scheme among the horde of new balls on the market. But Top-Flite should have asked themselves whether there might not have been a good reason why someone hadn't tried dull orange for lettering before. Third complaint, the "box". Ultimates come in a round plastic container that is 1. hard to open 2. hard to store in your bag and 3. ugly and and cheap looking. I mean, was there something wrong with the concept of the 3-ball sleeve that needed fixing by Callaway and Top-flite? As a marketing ploy this is even stupider than Titleist's "shortage" of V1s.

Despite my complaints this ball remains very playable. But given the competition at this price point, I don't see any good reason for me to put up with lack of durability, ugliness and stupid packaging.

I love this ball! I've moved to it from the Professional in the Strata line. It flies well, and the feel on the green is outstanding. I know someone who moved from the Ultimate to Callaway, but I don't want to spend $60 per dozen ($Cdn.) on them. I still can lose a $5 ball as easily as a $3-4 ball. Incidentally, the Ultimates were $46.95/dozen Canadian.

This is a follow up to my last review. I have now come to believe that his is the best golf ball around at the moment. It isn't the softest, but still feels great. The Callaway Blue are still my stock ball (at £18 for a dozen practice) but I am starting to think that the extra £10 is money well spent for the Tour Ultimate.

This is by far the best ball I have ever played. It is extremely long, I mean extremely long. It flies higher and loands extremely soft. I stopped a 5 iron on hard greens from 185. The ball goes higher, with more than average spin, making it land extremely soft. The ball is also very soft. Softer than the Titleist Pro, Precept TP, Nike TA, Wilson SC Balata, Callaway Blue, and the Strata Pro(good ball). I normally play the balls listed above, and the TU is at least 10 yards longer off the tee, as well as 1-1.5 clubs longer w/ the irons. This is my new ball of choice by far for the price, and for the performance. I can't imagine a ball being better! I was hitting my 3 wood 265 off of the tee(slightly firm fairways). Listen to Jim Furyk and Hal Sutton, Switch to Strata....Lower your scores!
