the sweet spot on the club is as large as advertised! it's very hard NOT to hit the ball. the head size is not too small or large either, and that lends to more confidence at address. off-center shots still get good distance as long as the swing went well. how do you know you've hit a solid shot? the club lets you know with an awesomely loud PLANG!--then you just look up and see the ball still climbing on its arc upwards. a great feeling and sight to see. one thing to note about the loft indications that may confuse the potential buyer is the issue of people saying that the loft is higher than noted on the club. i didn't find this to be true in my case. i demo'd the 9 degree driver, and while i was still able to get good disance with it, it didn't carry as far as i think it should have. it's my opinion that those who opt for the lower lofted driver have a moderately fast swing/club head speed. i don't necessarily have a slow swing/club head speed myself, but the 10.5 degree loft seemed to launch my ball in the air higher and longer for added carry and distance. no need to try to be a hero and lose distance with a lower loft, especially with a very capable driver like this! best bet is to go out and demo one first as everyone's swing is different to some extent.

LONG and FORGIVING. I have had some amazing drives with this club when hit on the screws(ie 330+) but I usually carry the ball 250-260 on average hits. I agree with others that the 9* is more like a 10. I tee it low so that it has more of a trajectory of a 9*. The shaft is not as stiff as I would like. It is more like a regular+ rather than a stiff. The sound can be loud but when you hit it pure, you don't care. You just grin and laugh. It has certainly help out my game as I find the fairway much more and have shorter approaches.

The BEST driver on the market. Rankmark rates it as a top driver and you better believe it! Light weight shaft and larger head takes some getting used to (I had to work on releasing the club a little earlier to prevent going right). I bought the 9* Stiff shaft and I couldn't be happier. It does have a little more loft than what it says on the club and you should buy one-two degrees less than you currently use. I always thought that Callaways were the most forgiving clubs on the market......but really no comparison to this bad boy!

I'm from Singapore, so Cobra (Acushnet Japan) has the Hi-COR versions of their SS drivers that come in slighly different cc from the US versions. My average swing speed is only 93MPH, no match for some of the fellas here who whacked their big stick into 300 yards region... Anyway, I find that the 50 grams Graphite Design Shaft in Reg Flex and Low Kickpoint worked fantastically well for me. My drives are dead straight which is great for a chronic slicer like me... :)The ball just hang in the air a long time from the high ball flight which gives me good carry distance! Cobra is really underrated in this part of the world. People are still trying to lay their hands on Titleist and TaylorMade and Callaway drivers, and when they do, some struggle. A pity, since Cobra comes in so many shaft options to choose from and made such great looking clubs Go try them out before buying, you'll be wondering why have you been hesitant to pull out your driver on course all these while... with Cobra SS drivers, you will be spoilt for choice... My driving confidence is back!

Customer Service

Acushnet has been very active doing demo days all over driving range in Singapore recently. Kudos to them! Friendly folks too!

Great driver. Very forgiving and longer than any other driver I have used. I admit that it took me a while to "learn" how to hit this driver. Maybe because the head feels way lighter than I am used to. Now that I've had a chance to practive with it, I am now hitting my drives farther than I have ever before and am keeping a higher percentage of them in play. Every so often a loose swing sends the ball way right. But in general even an ok swing produces good results. 450 hard par 4's now seem more reasonable.

Customer Service

Haven't dealt with Cobra's customer service. DiscountDans customer service is excellent. Had the club in my hands the next day after ordering it online.

I am a long hitter. That said, I have not been able to hit a driver worth squat. I have been using a 3 iron for the longest time. After hearing " wow, if only you could hit a driver" for the 100th time I broke down and went to Stadium golf to find a driver that I could rely on without changing my swing style. I tend to fade in the last 30 yards or so, sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. I hit the Cleveland 400, Titleist 983, TaylorMade 580, MacGregor V-foil, Ping Si3, and Callaway Great Big Bertha and Hawkeye versions. Immediately the Callaways were out, way too unforgiving. Same with the Ping, just sprayed everywhere. The 580 was long, very long but still unforgiving. The Mac was good, surprisingly good, but something I cant put my finger on was leaning against it. The Titleist felt very solid, and very long, but still tended to push right, about6 out of 10 slightly off center. After several elimination rounds I was left with the Cleveland and Cobra. The Cleveland was the longest (on average) of all the clubs I had hit. The Cobra was unquestionably the most forgiving club I have EVER hit. Dead center every time, not one single mistake that would have meant bogey on the course. Long and straight, Great trajectory, great feel, it won. Hands down. For some of you the Cleveland or Titleist are worthy considerations, and I am still not sure why the Mac didnt feel right because its a great club, but whatever you do, give the Cobra equal time. I am not a shot shaper off the tee, but I can hit it a long, long way. What a thrill to not have to worry about pulling off a great second shot in order to make par.

Customer Service

The club I tested was great. I was ready to buy it. Joey at Stadium Golf insisted that the torque was not right and eventually would not fit with my swing style. I went there promising myself I would not know better, and listened to his advice. The stiff YS-6 Graphite Design shaft was on a 3 week waiting list. Worst news possible when you finally find THE club. Well, Cobra got it to me in 10 days. And was Joey ever right, even better than on the range. INCREDIBLE!!!!!

It comes as advertised ! A high draw that gives me 10 extra yards. I play the 9 degree, stiff shaft. Very forgiving, however, with the 2 degree closed face, I always err to the left, and must be careful to not hit my famous pull hook.

Model Reviewed: Cobra 380 9 degree loft stiff shaft

This club is the real deal. I had the opportunity to demo a 350, 380 and a 427 side by side in their stock stiff shafts. The 350 shaft was to stiff for my swing but the head was hot. The 427 shaft with the high bend was way to stiff. That lives the 380. The shaft was perfect for me and what an accurate long hitting machine. I left the range and and went to play a round witht the 380. Iw ill have one in my bag by thursday of next week (8-14-2003) no kidding. It sets up great, the shaft is soft and stable, and it sends golf balls on a piercing flight that is truly fun to watch. I have owned most of what is out their and If you are in the market try this little beauty. I really wanted to like the 983K but never could and if you can demo the 983K and the 380 side by side you will see how much more feel the 380 has.

Absolutely amazing club. I went in for a shaft fitting, and found that the regular shafted clubs I was using were not the right clubs for me, so the fitter put a demo SS 380 in my hands, with a stiff shaft and 9 degree loft. I immediately started hitting straight to some draws and slight fades...TO THE BACK OF THE FENCE. I have never felt more confident with the big stick, but this club has changed my game. I am regularly hitting 270 yards+, and occasionally uncork one over 300. Nice to be in the fairway, rather than the trees too. Very nice feel, over-loud sound at impact(but that is just nitpicky), shaft feels great. I also picked up the 3-wood, but I am not overly-impressed by that yet, but I am able to get it out to 250, when I hit it right.

Customer Service

I've tried every driver golf has to offer. Nothing has been this straight and long for me. The combination of weight thoughout the head and shaft is very comfortable. A smooth swing gives me more confidence than I ever thought I could get out of a driver. I used to tee off with a 3-wood and rarely pulled out the driver but that isn't the case anymore. I hit it on almost every hole now. I easily gained 20 or so yards just from using a club that goes right down the middle. (vs. fade) This driver is awesome. I DO NOT recommend the fairway woods though.
