Whoa! When I first got this club i was blown away with its looks. Then I hit my first ball, and this club could be the straightest club I have ever seen. If everyone hit this club there would be some hungry monkeys because there would be no bananas in sight. It really is good enough to justify that horrible joke. The NV shaft and launch angle give this club carry that is undescribable. It really allows you to push yourself without feeling sketchy about which fairway the ball will end up in. Pick up one for yourself and you will not be disappointed.

Its Ping, tell me who is better?

Model Reviewed: PING G5, 10.5 degree, grafalloy blue, 65 Stiff

My buddies at my home course believe I'm insane or ($) loaded, which is not true, except for the insane part: I've gone thru a bunch of drivers in the last year, wasting extra $, and not finding what I've been hoping for in a driver. Eureka! I found it! Ping G5.
My last "try" was the HiBore; granted, I don't believe I've ever hit the ball as far, but the control was missing, significantly. So I went back to my Comp, which never ballooned like the Hibore could, but the Comp had too low of a launch angle, lacks some control, but still went far as any driver I've hit - when I hit the fairway.
I have hit at least 6 drivers in recent weeks on the launch monitor, including my Comp, and never got the ball to launch consistently over 11 or so degrees. Yes, the tee height and my swing could be tweaked to get a couple more degrees, but do you want to try to change your swing for just one club? I've tried that, the road to chaos.
The other day, I went to try an R7, and I grabbed a nearby G5 to compare the two on the monitor, NOT intending to buy the G5.
WHHELLLLL! The PING G5, 10.5 degree, grafalloy blue 65 Stiff was launching at about 14 deg, carrying 265 to 270 (avg swing speed when not trying to "kill it" is 105) and spin was lower than other drivers I had tried, including my Comp - and it was straight!
Let's see...great launch angle, lower spin, more carry, straighter...um, where's my VISA? And $100 less too?
I took it to my course that night. The first drive? 285 down the middle, straight as a string, and I didn't pure it. Can someone say "Fred Funk won the Players Championship"? Let me hit another!! 290, 280, 285...all in the fairway. And mostly carry (fairways were soft)! Any drier or downwind will add another 20 to 30 easy.
Now, if you (the big hitter) believe the driver is the end all to golf, read Pelz; umm, no, don't, and let's play for money. It's big at number #3, but the wedge and putter are most important. But if you can putt too, don't call me! ;)
But give me a chance to putt (my strength) via GIR for birdies, and tap in for pars - you will not be pressing me. If you can't putt, your driver at 330 yards "every time!" will help little. And the one you OB on the 3rd hole will negate your other 330s all day. Fairways hit breed confidence in all other clubs.
The G5 will allow me to more consistently putt for birdies, the goal of golf. I can hit it 300+ when hitting the center, and I hit some with the G5 that first night about 300 (no wind) with more carry (good when grass is soaked), as far as my Comp, but the amazing attribute of the G5 is its tendency (the ball coming off it) to NOT peel off with high spin one way or the other, as much, via toe/heel shots - the ball flight bores straight, in the direction you started the ball, and still goes far.
Now, if you think this review is a good PING marketing ploy, know I do not own any other Ping club(s); I have Titleist 695 CB irons (superb), Cleveland 3 and 7 woods (the best), Taylormade hybrid (excellent), Mizuno wedges (perfectly straight), Odyssey 2 ball putter (there is a reason Annika uses this putter).
All that said, I write this for the person who is still looking for a driver that goes long, straight, and has forgiving/less spin, and wants to putt for birdies. Try a G5.
Also, make sure the demo has no tape on the club face - it adds spin to the ball and screws up the launch monitor readings.

Model Reviewed: Ping G5 12 degree, graffaloy stiff

I currently have two drivers- a Nike Ignite 13 degree, and a Cobra SZ 460 10.5 with Aldila stiff shaft- and thought I was pretty happy with both of 'em (the Nike especially is pretty forgiving). I have hit hit Titleists' and Callaways as well, as I have friends who have both. A buddy of mine just got a Ping G5 though (Graffaloy stiff shaft w/12 degree head), and was nice enough to let me give it a whack on the course today. Immediately, I was impressed with how it lined up at address- much better than any other club I'd seen or hit. Then I hit it, and boom, straight down the middle- 235-240. To make sure this wasn't a fluke, I used it for the remainder of the round, and was really swingin' for the fences near the end. Then, to further ensure that it wasn't a fluke, we hit balls at the range after our round. Bottom line, I could not mis-hit this thing- during the round- I hit 10 outta 11 fairways I drove, and the results at the range were equally amazing. I have always been aware of Ping, but for some reason- never gave their clubs a try. I am now a believer BIG TIME. I would definitely recommend that anyone who's in the market for a driver at least try a Ping. I am now searchin' EBay for a nice deal on a G5!!

THIS DRIVER GOES WAY HIGHER THAN THE LOFT INDICATES. I BOUGHT THE 9 DEGREE AND IT WAS GOING IN THE AIR LIKE AN 11 DEGREE OR MORE. IT WAS HARD FOR ME TO HIT THIS CLUB ESPECAILLY INTO THE WIND JUST WAY TOO HIGH. MAYBE I SHOULD HAVE GONE WITH THE 8 DEGREE? GOOD CLUB FOR FOLKS WITH AN ALTITUDE PROBLEM.

Bought this used on ebay and it is tied for the best golf for the dollar I have ever spent.(With my putter) I got a 9 degree with an Aldila NV65 stiff shaft. You almost have to try to hit this anything but straight, and it is very long as well. Even when hit on the toe or heel it goes straight just not as far. Driving and putting have always been the worst parts of my game but not any more. I helped my putting with a Middleweight putter from Dead Straight Golf and now my driving with the Ping. I've gone from the high 80's to the very low 80's overnight and now I can focus on my next weakness. Unfortunately it's my wedge play and I already have a great wedge.

I was playing a Mizuno MP-001 driver with an Aldila NV-65s shaft and was hitting it pretty well, but it was just hard to get airborne. After hitting everything out there and getting a professional computer analysis of my golf swing, I fell in love with the Callway Ft-3 Tour. Until, that is, I hit the G5 with a Graffalloy Pro-Launch shaft. I hit the G5 at a local demo days and fell in love with it. I have played about 25 rounds with the club and have found myself in the fairway almost twice as often as I was before. This club sets up very well, is easy to hit, and feels great. Length wise, it is 5-10 yds longer than my Mizuno, but it's in the fairway much more often. This club won't give you 20+ more yards off the tee, but it should keep you out of the woods.

Customer Service

I haven't had to deal with them, but have heard that they're second to none.

A week ago my wife bought a gift certificate at one of the local courses across the river in Evansville. I used it for a Ping G5 10.5 degree driver, stiff flex TFC 100D shaft. Long story short, it's like legalized cheating. I'm 48 years old and am hitting the longest drives I've ever hit. This thing hits the ball high, straight, and with a trajectory that just bores and bores. I'm hitting at around 270 to 280 yards and everything feels flush. My previous driver was a Taylormade R580 XD and I have no complaints about it, but this G5 is off the chart for distance and trajectory.

Customer Service

I've used Eye 2 irons forever and if there's a better outfit than Karsten when it comes to customer service I'd like to know who it is. They are top notch.

Model Reviewed: PING G5 9*

This driver is great in the hands of the right player. I went to a local PGA superstore and after trying numerous drivers I certainly felt like the G5 was the best fit. I was using a TaylorMade r7 HT, but even with a shaft change I couldn't get much distance and my accuracy was not improved by the r7. My swing speed is around 90mph and the the PING driver was much lighter. I was hitting the ball 210-230yards max before, but I was hitting the ball straight on level par fours around 250-280yards this past weekend.

If you want a light weight driver and you want to increase your club head speed try this driver (make sure that a pro shop fits you with the right shaft).

if you slice the ball off the tee, this is the PERFECT driver for you
I tend to have a bit of a draw, so this club didn't really help me out as far as accuracy goes
but the distance i got was tremendous!!
I bought the callaway x460 and get less distance than i did with this driver, but I wasn't hooking it as much, so i figured i'd try a swing with a slice, and I could get the ball to go straight, but not to slice

so I think that if you slice the ball than you will have tremendous results with this club, and the price tag isn't too bad either

I was fitted at a demo day for a 12 degree(non offset) model with an NV 75 regular shaft cut down to 45 inches. I was skeptical of the loft and shaft recommendation, but purchased the club based on its reputation. The club has performed very consistently over the course of 20-25 rounds. My normal miss is high right or a sharp hook. This shaft has eliminated the hook and the closed face has completely eliminated the right side miss. The Ping rep knew what he was doing. My normal drives are 240-260, and I have gained 5-10 yards on my best drives, but more importantly , my mis hits stay in the fairway and I don't lose a lot of distance. The club is very easy to swing and has a pleasant feel when struck well. Overall, this driver performs the best on the course of all the drivers I have tried over the last several years. I highly recommend getting fitted by a Ping rep. The standard shaft length in this driver is 45 3/4 inches, which is too long for most golfers to control in my opinion.
