Model Reviewed: G5 7.5* loft, Aldila NV75 Stiff Shaft

I have tried several of the new drivers this year, and finally settled on the Ping G5. Overall it gives me the best combination of distance and accuracy that I could find. Yes I have a lower lofted model, but I prefer a flatter trajectory as living where I do, there are A LOT of elevated tees, and I get a better distance. I may pick up another G5 with a higher loft for flatter courses. Certainly compared to the price of other models it is a bargin! In the past I have never used Ping woods, but have played their irons quite a bit (currently using S59's and Ping tour wedges). But I also put the G5 3 wood in the bag as well as a couple of the G5 hybrids. For my game, I simply can't find another driver that is better than this. Long, straight, and I simply like the feel of it!

Model Reviewed: Ping G5 Driver

Went back to the local golf shop my buddy runs to compare my Ping G2 10 degree driver vs the new Ping G5 10.5 degree driver on the launch monitor. Each driver had the exact same Ping stock shaft. I've been real happy with the G2 but wanted to see if there was a difference with the G5. Both drivers produced a 15 degree launch angle on most shots. The drives with the G5 consistantly produced shots with between 300 to 500rpm less back spin. Which resulted in drives on the launch monitor for me about 10 - 12 yards longer with the G5. I also tried the G5 with the Prolaunch shaft in it, but for me this combination wasn't as good as the softer tip stock shaft.

Customer Service

Recently sent a Ping Doc putter I've had for about a year back to Ping to see if they could refinish it. When I called to check on the status they told me that the putter is being replaced free of charge and would ship that day! Received a new putter in the mail 2 days later. Ping makes great products & stands buy them. Can go wrong with a family run company that makes clubs in the US!

I bought the Ping G5 Driver from a ProGolfWarehouse approx 2 months ago. It's a really nice looking club but I can't hit it. My tee shots all sliced unless I mad a mistake and hit it straight and when I did that, the ball would fly further than any I had ever hit. But 90% of my drives slice with thid driver, so I went back to the TaylorMade R5 Dual which is very forgiving.

Model Reviewed: Ping G5, follow up to previous article

just a follow up, i have now played 10+ games with the driver and its FANTASTIC! I am supposed to be a 14 handicap, but am shooting around 10 over. played my lowest score 7 over with this just 2 days ago. (of course, its not just the driver, but it has managed to keep my ball in the fairway long and straight, which kinda helps your next shot) I think my handicap will be revised to 12 over the next time. Just get your butt down to the range and demo this, you can't go wrong!! I know i didn't! :)

Model Reviewed: PING G5, 10.5 degree, grafaloy blue 65r

i have been playing terrible golf lately. (combination of bad swings and bad luck) To put things into perspective, my handicap is 14 and i have been playing about 6-12 over the last 3 games. Thought i could do with a change and got the g5. i was using the g2 10 degree previously. Didn't try it at the range, just tried to smack it straight out of the bag. Good load that did me, i double bogeyed the first. BUT.... after getting used to club. (call it the getting to know you period) I proceeded to card 4 over for the first 9 and 8 for the 2nd (i was getting tired, hadn't played in a while and recovering from back injury) That was my best score in 2 months. I played the next day and scored 4 and 5 over. THAT was my best score in a year!! I would like to think the G5 helped lower my scores, it did in a way. I only missed one fairway both days, (my first shot) and was averaging 250 yards, swinging easy (back injury). can't wait to go at it full pelt, i usually average 280 with my old g2s. I highly recommend this club if you like the g2. reviews have said there is little difference. I would like to think so, but results for me (and all that ad talk) has led me to believe otherwise... ;) Happy golfing!

The first time I picked up this driver I thought it was way to soft at impact, missing that solid feeling that any good player wants. But, put and NV in there instead of the stock shaft and this club is long and straight.

WOW! Used the Ping G5 Driver for the first time today. Weather here is 28 degrees with about .5 inches of snow, but, I hit it a ton. Great distance even in the cold weather at my local driving range... hit it straight and long... great club ! All the new drivers are expensive, and this one is also, but, what the heck. Get a good club and enjoy it ! My Ping G5 has the Grafalloy Pro Launch shaft, regular flex. No extra cost for this shaft.

Model Reviewed: PING G5 Driver 7.5 loft with Aldila NV Stiff

This driver is a beauty and a concealed weapon. You can get lots of distance without effort. I bought mine 7.5 degrees because I knew, Ping drivers delivers a higher launch angle than other brands. So If you have a high tendency, buy the lesser loft. A 7.5 degrees launches like a 8.5 or even 9 and so forth. The combination of shaft is just great. I noticed that the sweet spot is in the upper part of the face but anyways, it is very forgiving. The price is just amazing for a Titanium driver if you compare with a few years ago same specs and brands. The sound is like the classic steel drivers, not the cowbell sound many other brands have. Seems to me this driver is draw bias because is hard to slice the ball.

Ping G5 driver, Graphalloy Pro-launch 65 S shaft, 10.5 degrees of loft. This club is a pleasure to hit. If you haven't tried it, you are missing out. I traded in my Great Big Bertha II, 10 degree with the exact same shaft and now I feel like I'm cheating when I'm playing. This club has taken me to places I'm not used to hitting from. I basically play the same course all of the time and I'm reaching places I've never reached before. I used to have to play my draw when I was using the GBBII, now I just align and pull the trigger on the G5. Now I'm flying over the traps in the 240 yard landing zone. I wasn't sure about the 10.5 degree loft, since I normally hit the ball pretty high with the 10 degree GBBII. I've only skied one ball with the 10.5 G5 and the ball still traveled close to 240 yards. Like I said, I don't have to play a draw or the occasional hook and the ball is playable much more often. The ball flight is that much straighter. I haven't experienced the 300 yard drive I would occasionally hit with the GBBII, but I'm hitting the sweet spot much more often with the G-5 and more importantly, keeping the ball in play. Lastly, the Graphalloy Blue, prolaunch shaft, 65S, is outstanding. I will not own another driver that does not have that shaft in it. When I purchased the GBBII several years ago, I believe I paid $350.00 for the new club. I paid $299.00 for the G5, how does that work?

Customer Service

No experience with Ping on this driver, but with the service I received on the I-5's I just ordered, I truly believe that Ping has set the standard that all other golf companies are chasing.

Model Reviewed: Ping G5

In my opinion most brand name drivers are good, but it is well worth the time and effort to get fitted. I went to a Cleveland demo day set on buying a Comp. I tried various combinations but couldn't get my rpm's below 4000, so I also tried the Titleist 905, Taylormade R5, R7 and Ping G5 in various shafts and flexes. Everyone agreed the Aldila NV stiff shaft was the best fit for my swing, high ball 100-107 mph. The G5 brought my rpm's down the most, however no G5's were available in the store with the Aldila NV shaft. For me the combination (head, shaft and flex) become obvious. The G5 brought my rpm's down the most and the green NV shaft gave me the most optimal ball flight, but I wanted to confirm it. Fortunately, the same week Ping was having a demo day with the same launch monitor their tour pros use. The Ping G5 with the Aldila NV stiff shaft brought my backspin down to the 2400-2700 rpm range, which is ideal. I tried multiple shafts and flexes and confirmed my findings from earlier in the week. I ended up with the Ping G5 9° with an Aldila NV stiff flex shaft. I have since played with it three times resulting in drives in the 270-300 yd range, which is much longer than I have ever hit it before! And I am now hitting a consitent draw, totally unexpected. As a final note, I am currently playing a high spin ball and am told to switch to the Titleist ProV1* or Callaway HT Tour to produce lower spin to increase my distance further. We'll see? I truely can't imagine hitting the ball any further. We'll see what happens once I run out of my current supply of balls. Hope this helps! Recommendations: 1) Get fit! 2) Excellent value for the money if it fits your swing. 3) Great sound. 4) Looks are okay. Best looking was the Titleist.
