TaylorMade R5 Dual N Drivers

TaylorMade R5 Dual N Drivers

DESCRIPTION

The r5 dual features widely spaced, dual TaylorMade Launch control (TLC) cartridges that are pre-configured and permanent. This positions the weight ideally so you don't have to. With Launch Control promoting an extremely high MOI (moment of inertia) and proper clubhead rotation, the r5 dual Type N delivers remarkable forgivness and a straight ball flight while the r5 dual Type D provides a draw. Meanwhile, the exceptionally large 450cc titanium clubhead not only looks substantial at address, but it also gives you solid contact, consistently straighter shots and of course, confidence. And with TaylorMade's revolutionary inverted Cone Technology, the expanded COR of the r5 results in higher ball velocity on off center hits for longer, more consistent drives.

I've never writen a review for anything before but felt the need to let others know what a great club this is. You can look up any club on this website and besides the occasional "Ok" review they all say mostly the same thing.. "My club is Great"... and I it hit 300+ yards... which is bull for 90% of players!

So hopefully this is useful review. As a comparision I've played the Callaway 454, Cleveland Launcher 460, and Cleveland Launcher Ti460. Honestly the Callaway is just nothing special (great irons at Callaway but stay away from the BB 454... nothing special at all). The Cleveland Launcher line is very forgiving and definitely very long... I really thought that it couldn't get any better...UNTIL I tried the R5. Honestly I was very pleasantly surprised that the R5 surpassed the Launcher Ti460 in both forgiveness and distance. Now to be honest, with my better swings the Launcher and R5 N performed pretty much identically distance-wise but I definitely got more consistant results with the R5 N. Its just easier to hit and I get a more penetrating ball flight, which I like.
Also, I have tried several clone clubs which claim to be identical to the R5... I'm a technical guy and the clone specs looked exactly the same as R5 so I figured that I'll be smart and get the clone as save some money... what a mistake! Definitely buy the authentic club... there is just no comparison. The R5 and Cleveland just kills the ball compared to the clone.

Also, don't be afraid of getting the 10.5 Degree loft. Everyone seem to get 9.5 degree and I did the same with the Launcher 460 but switched to the 10.5 for the Launcher Ti460 and R5 and it made a huge difference... my swing speed is 85-95mph... with an occasional 100mph. I tried the Regular Flex and Stiff Flex (both stock shafts) on both the T460 and the R5. I didn't notice a difference with the Ti460 but there was a definitely difference between the 2 shafts for the R5. I ended up the Stiff M.A.S. on the R5 and it fits me very well.
So if you are out there wondering 9.5 or 10.5 ... Ti460 or R5... get the R5 10.5.

FYI: The R5 D (Draw bias) can definitely help BAD slicers... but remember the draw bias moves the CG closer to the club shaft which reduces the MOI of the club head about the Shaft... which may make the club straiter but less forgiving.

An absoulutely amazing driver. I have never owned a driver as good. This club allowed me to gain at least 25 yards on my swing. This club is defientely forgiving on drives. I would recommend this driver to anyone, regardless of how skilled of a golfer they are. It is defientely worth it to buy this club.

best driver i have ever owned. the shaft seems to work with the clubhead like they are a perfect match. this teamwork between components produces a long, high drive, nearly always strtaight down the middle. i LOVE this club!
i would recommend this driver to anybody who usually hits a high fade and wants a straighter, or even drawing, shape to their drives. also this driver is SERIOUSLY long so anybody who wants a little more length can find it with the r5 dual. great club...

I went into the PGA Supertstore to buy a new driver. I hit the new callaway x460. I was already to purchase until i hit the r5 by accident. I quickly changed my mind and put a fujikura shaft in it. I took to the driving range to see if I made a good choice. Let just say I love this driver. I hit it long and straight. The club is very forgiving. I am no longer afraid to hit driver on tight holes. I know everyone wants more distance from the driver. But if you are like me you don't get paid to play golf. So you don't hit 80 percent of fairways swinging for the fences. I have a natural draw swing so I got the N setting. I also hit the ball high so the 9.5 was fine. I can still hit this club high and long. My buddies better watch out because the guy who use to out drive them with a callaway three wood will kill them with the r5 driver. and i saved a lot of money buying this club now rather than a year or so ago. see ya.

Model Reviewed: Taylor Made R5 Dual N, Grafolloy Tour Stiff shaft

I never owned a driver untill recently this year when I purchased the R5 on ebay in Febuary. I took my 3 wood of the tee with medium success. After some range practice and 3 rounds with the R5, I must say, this club changed my game completly. Having difficulties breaking 100 in the past, now I see the course from a new angle and consistenly play mid 90.

This driver supports confidence and provides forgiveness to an extend that the ball will go straight almost every time. Unprecedented distance (for me) reduced the demand for long irons to make the approach shot.

Anyway, it is important to find the right shaft for your swing. the Grafolloy Tour Stiff is perfect for my swing and I can only encourage you to test different clubhead / shaft combinations. You will be amazed about the results on the course if the right combination is in your bag.

The short story is that this is a terrific driver. It's probably not the absolute longest driver out there, but it's strengths lie with the combination of length and forgiveness. On a good day, I'm usually driving the ball about 250-260 yards with some reaching 275+. However, when I miss the sweetspot, distance may drop to 230-240...that's it, seriously.

I've played the 580XD with great success, then tried the Ping G2 on a whim. The G2 punished you on off-center hits with a SEVERE loss of distance. Though in all fairness, the ball still went straight.

If you want a nice balance of distance and forgiveness, without punishing distance-loss, give the r5 a shot.

Model Reviewed: Taylor Made R5 Dual Type N

I bought a Titleist 975 driver about seven or eight years ago when I was picking up the game and always struggled to hit driver. It got to the point in the last two years or so that I gave up on trying to hit one at all and have been using my Cobra hybrid to tee off with. While I love my Baffler and I’m very consistent with it, I can only hit it about 220-230 yards on my best days. I always say short and straight is better than long and wild but constantly being 30 or 40 yards shorter than my brother-in-law or whomever I play with has always been somewhat emasculating. I did a little research to find a very forgiving driver and somewhat arbitrarily decided to demo an R5. The first thing that struck me was how big the head of this thing is… I know they’re all big nowadays but compared to the Titleist that’s been collecting dust in my bag the R5 is nearly twice as big. It just breeds confidence b/c you look at it and cannot imagine how you could miss the ball. It’s nicely weighted and everything I hit seemed to go far and straight. The other guys on the range the first day I was hitting must have thought I was a little nutty because I was so amused by how easy the R5 was to hit that I kept chuckling. This was a no-brainer purchase for me – I got a brand new 10.5 degree with the stock stiff shaft at golfclubexchange.com for about half the price listed on the website you’re reading right now. I have a natural tendency to draw (on good days) and hook (on bad ones) so I bought the Type N to help me keep it straight. However, I also demoed the Type D and didn’t have any real problems, so it’s hard for me to say it makes a huge difference. Overall, I would recommend the R5 to anyone looking for a very forgiving and easy to hit driver. I also demoed the Mizuno MX-500 and the Ping G5 – both were pretty good but I just felt more comfortable with the Taylor Made. Deals can be found on the web at places like ebay and golfclubexchange.com if you know exactly what you’re looking for.

Model Reviewed: R5 Dual N 9.5

Afer many years of playing with rather average drivers, I decided to splurge myself with a new driver. My handicap is 12, and my strengths are irons and wedges. My average drive is around 240-250 metres (270 yrds) usually pretty straight, with my bad shot being a slight fade. After going to my local pro, i came down to three drivers. The R5 Dual N, R5 Dual D and the R7. After reading many reviews (from this site and anothers) I was almost ready to buy an R7. However after a practise round with a trial R7, although the weights did affect the ball flight, to get a decent amount of distance (so as not to have to use a long iron on a par 4!) i had to hit it right off the middle of the face, with relatively no room for error. Thus i decided that the R7 was probably over my head. I tryed the R5 and loved it from the first ball i hit. It gave me an extra 10m (not the monstrous 40m that some people were quoting!) and allowed for less the perfect hits. The 'D' version for me didnt give me the control that i felt i needed. The closed face and the cg closer to the heel did create a draw, but eliminated any chance of getting a deliberate fade. Therefore i choose the 'N' type. The grip (not being cord) wasnt the best, but is still quite good. I left the tm shaft in, and gives me the same results (if not better) as my old graffaloy. The head is beautiful to look at, both top and bottom, and certainly turns your opponents heads. The 450cc doesnt look cubersome, but slides nicely behind the ball. It does however make a deafening 'ping' which can be disatrous to your ears if you have to hit several balls at the same tee, which sounds as though you've hit it off the screws everytime! This is great club, however it is not a wonder club that doesnt hit bad shots. Bad swings still bring less than perfect results (my friend who plays off 4 even shanked a ball last week with it!), but those shots arent as bad as they would be with other clubs. A great club, and at a half reasonable price (considering the price of the new R7!) a good buy.

I bought this from GolfBox in Perth (via the internet at www.golfbox.com.au) who were great. They answered all my questions and gave me a good deal. Give them a try if your looking to buy.

YES! I had been struggling with the Ping G2 after 5 years of playing with the Taylor 300. I've hit a lot of Drivers, but there's just something about this one that has me smilin' again. Very straight, very forgiving, and long enough. When I laid into the Ping, I hit it about 280+. The R5 effortlessly went 280 the first day out. I'm hitting more fairways now. I am NOT exaggerating, I really hit more fairways now than before I got this Driver. Taylor Made has always been known as being good for the majority of golfers.
