My swing speed is about 95 mph & normal drives go about 230 yards. Got the 12* loft on ebay, under $200 shipped and it is impressive. The face is not that deep but the forgiveness is incredible. The shots go nice and high and as long as I swing rediculously slow the ball rockets off the face. Must be the shaft or tip, but it feels like I'm swinging at 75 or 80 mph, yet I'm getting 10 or 15 yards more on perfect drives and maybe 20 - 25 yards more than previous driver on poor hits since this club doesn't slice where my old Callaway did. Hit one off the heel which would have went 200 yards with my old Callaway & it went 225. These days it seems everyone is driving the ball 275 to 325 yards, but believe me when I hit a 240 yard drive down the middle with a lot of hang time I grin from ear to ear. The Pres. of Taylor Made said the big improvements in drivers are over for a while. I read the reviews here on 580XD, R7, R5, Cobra, Ping G2 and this is the highest rated driver for models with many reviews. It should be!! Be sure to get a high loft driver. VJ now playing a 10.5* driver & lots of pros are increasing their loft - today's low spin balls need high driver loft to get a nice trajectory. Love this site - love this driver! R580XD 10.5 Regular
I bought this club in 9.5 loft and stiff shaft but was slicing it and had no feel. I didn't like driving and used my 3 wood most of the time. I knew i needed 10.5 loft and regular flex as i have an average speed swing so eventually i got one. Wow! is all i can say. Hole 2 (downhill) and i smack it 50 yards from the pin. Nearly 300 yards and im 16 and only started last year. It flew right off the face and had so much feel in i couldn't wait to shoot the next shot. Hole 4 uphill and for the first time i hit it over the top and past the path. It just carries so much. Easily increased my yardage by 20-30 yards. Overall i'd easily hit 10 less strokes as it also helped my confidence in the rest of my game. Get these while they are cheap 2nd hand, theres no need to pay £300 for the r7. I was using a Callaway warbird, and hit a pretty strong ball, but WOW. I tried this clud and was amazed. I'm 5'10 and weight 250. I was hitting the ball a good 250 easy. Now I am hitting 300+ and its straight. It is just an amazing club. I could not say anything bad about it. |

I LOVE GOLF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think that explains how I feel about this club. I never used to hit driver and would use a 5 wood or 5 iron from the tee due to a NASTY, and I mean NASTY slice. I have worked on my swing a lot, and decided to invest in a HUGE 500cc John Daley driver. I started hitting the fairway about 50% of the time, but the drives were still eratic. I new my swing needed work so I worked and worked and worked! Still didn't hit the fairway more than 50% of the time. I then decided that my driver sucked and that I would search ebay for a cheap high end model. I found a Callaway C4 brand new for 100 U.S. Wow, a Callaway was now in my bag! Still, found myself spraying the ball all over with about a 60% chance of finding the fairway on good days. I still had that slice though. Very frustrating. I also bought a cheap Callaway Steel Head plus. I had initial success with that due to its closed face. Then that driver quickly declined. The head was just too small and it had to be hit on the screws to have it go anywhere. I then had an offer to buy my C4 for 100.00. I jumped on it and bought the TM R580XD brand new for 200.00. The rest is absolutely history! The slice is gone and I can actually draw the ball. If I never hit the club, I would never have thought that a club could make so much difference. I always thought than any club was just like the other, it was just a bad swing. I haven't changed my swing at all and this club is straight and decently long! The big head doesn't lag behind either like the 500cc Daley. My friend has a Ping TISI and he always has a fade, not a slice, but a fade. I let him hammer down during a round of golf and it went straigt, really straight. All he could do was laugh to himself, and I new what he was thinking.......I need to get one of these. If you can, make the switch VERY SOON! It will be the last driver you buy. Golf is fun again! Been looking for one of these for quite awhile and with the intro of the R7 and R5 the 580XD became more affordable. Purchased one on Ebay for less than 200.00. Wow should have purchased one alot sooner!!! Normally use a regular flex shaft but purchased a stiff stock shaft as the regular felt a bit whippy. Drives just fly off of the head and mis-hits go straight with very little loss of distance. Initially I thought the ball flight was too high until I realized the distance that I was constantly getting. I would not consider myself a big hitter however I can consistanly hit this driver in the 260yd area with occasionally being able to crush it close to 300yds. Not only was I able to gain about 10 to 15 yds but even most of my mis-hits stayed in the short grass. This driver is certainly forgiving!!! Since my driving has been inconsistant over the years I think that with this "stick" I will be able to get down to a single digit handicap again. Customer Service Haven't had to use it. 580XD is a decent driver for the “average” player, I hate using the word average I mean who is average but it’s true. Don’t kid yourself into thinking the club you can buy in the shops and on eBay are anything like the ones you see people using who make their living out of golf. They look the same but that is where the difference ends, unless of course you’re lucky enough to be able to get hold of a used tour edition via a caddy or someone that works on a tour bus. When companies produce a product for the masses, and this is not just related to golf but every industry, they do their homework on what there target market is, FACT. Seeing as this driver is aimed at everyone the target market for TaylorMade is Mr Average who has a swing speed between 75-90 mph and a handicap of around 16.2, it is these stats or ones very close to them that would have been used in the development of this club for general sale. If that’s you, the 580XD with regular shaft is not a bad choice and you could do a lot worse. If that’s not you then be aware this club may not be for you, the head is very light and produces a high ball flight with little or no roll. I play with a couple of people who fit the Mr Average description and I was struggling to figure out how when I caught my driver perfect with my swing speed of 115mph plus I was only out driving them by 10-20 yards. The reason for this is simple really, my driver would be all carry there where many times I would find the hole my ball had pitched into only a few feet behind, sometimes even in front of my ball. They on the other hand would achieve the distance though part carry part roll a combination you need if distance is what you’re after. All in all not a bad club just not right for me. I posted a review for this club earlier, but wanted to add an update. After deciding that the original stock shaft was a bit "sluggish", I had the club reshafted with a Gafalloy Prolaunch 65S. There is a HUGE difference in feel and especially consitency. I'm not bombing it way past the original configuration, but I am hitting it consistently long now. Before I would average about 245 (230 min - 275 max). Now I am consistently 260 (245 min - 285 max). Again, big difference in feel, but especially consistency. Give it a try! I bought this club on a whim at a local shop because it was on sale for $200 canadian. i never buy clubs without hitting them... but took a chance in this case. i purchased the left hand 9.5 degree stiff flex firm tip. turns out this is just what i need. my swing speed is in the 120mph range, even more when i jump on it. being tall at 6'5" and in pretty good shape means i really get a lot of snap in my swing and this club felt awesome, not the least bit whippy or overstiff. just right in the middle area. i can swing smooth with this club and it literally jumps to over 310 yards on the fly. i haven't gotten a lot of roll as the conditions locally have been too wet, so all my drives are carry only for now. if you ask me 325 all acrry is just fine! i like the way it sets up for me, it took some geting used to the 440cc head (my last driver was only 320cc) but it really is confidence inspiring when even toe miss hits carry quite well. the closed face isn't something that i usually like (i play a draw already) but it doesn't seem to affect things very much. overall, very happy with this purchase, we'll just have to see how long that thin titanium face will hold up! I have now played 2 rounds with this driver(10.5 Degree) and I have never hit the ball straighter and at times with a slight power fade. One of the best drivers I have played. Face is slightly closed which helps if you have problems with a big fade or slice. The looks and feel deliver confidence at address and when making contact with the ball you receive a solid sound & feel. With off center hits you get good distance and when hitting it center a smooth feel & outstanding distance. I highly recommend this driver. This driver is amazing. If, like me, this is your first "big" headed driver, it will take a few swings to get the hang of it, although I assume this is mostly mental, but once you do . . . look out. Even mis-hits with this bad boy carry long and fairly straight (enough to keep you out of the really bad stuff anyway). I got this driver cheap (less than $200) because they're clearing them out, due to it's younger siblings the R7 and R5, and would recommend anyone that's looking for a driver and can get ahold of one do the same. Customer Service Haven't had to use it yet, but TaylorMade is a great product and the warranty is really good. Similar Products Used: Nike Ignite, TaylorMade R5 |
