Got this driver at a demo sale and an impulsive buy ... forgiving, straight, higher trajectory. I can usually hit it with 230 yds carry and some role to about 250. Also like the TaylorMade R7 Quad ... just as forgiving and goes longer.

I have been using a friend's R580XD with a Harmon Tour Design 65S shaft since he bought a new driver. This is an excellent driver. Long, easy to control, and gives me a nice draw that will allow the ball to really run once it hits the ground. Good feel, a pleasing sound to me, and I love the high gloss black finish.

10.5 degree with MAS 65 stiff flex shaft. Best driver I've ever had, and I've had a lot. Long, straight, high when you need it. Fantastic club.

I purchased this driver about 2 months ago. I had been reluctant to buy it when it first came out due to its price, but the R7 made these a bargain, $239.00. My driver has been holding me back from shooting lower and bringing down my handicap. I had been playing the Ping Si3 380 w/ a Grafalloy Blue Stiff. Great club when you hit it on the screws and very workable, but not very forgiving. The 580XD is the largest driver I've ever owned. Thought it was time to take advantage of the forgiveness a larger sweet spot can offer, and has it helped! I feel confident with this club. I usually play a power fade to about 280 yards, and a draw up to about 300 yds. I have been less likely to lose this club to the right as I had with the Ping. The feel off the clubface of the XD is excellent. You can feel it compressing, but it doesn't feel flimsy like my old r540 did. Also a flatter, more penetrating ball flight. The shaft was the most pleasant surprise of this club. Nice mid-high flex point with a stiff tip to keep the launch angle down a bit. I had been playing the Grafalloy Blue stiff in my last 2 drivers, and I think I like this stock shaft even better. The Blues seemed a little soft in comparison, especially in the Ping with its shorter hosel. I though I might have to replace the stock shaft, but it has served me well so far.

Just received yesterday. Played a round and only missed one fair way. Not much difference in distance compared to my 540xd but enormous difference in accuracy

Did not work for me: head too big for me to square consistently. It improved a bit after I reshafted it with a grafalloy blue but I still much prefered the 540xd and the 983. It may perform better for a person with a lower clubhead speed.

I tried this club with a regular shaft when it first came out but didn't find that it suited my swing. Today I was at the range and noticed that my Big Bertha War Bird was starting to go down hill, so I figured a new shaft was in order, but ended up testing the R580 XD 10.5, King Cobra SZ 10, and a 9* Great Big Bertha. I have to say, the R580XD is the best club that I have ever used. It was amazing. Controlling the ball is effortless and on the simulator I was driving 330+ everytime, with a few out to 350. I bought it after about thirty minutes of testing clubs and then took it to the driving range. I was expecting a lot out of it, but it far exceeded all expectations. The balls were going a mile. The fence at the range stops at 250 and my balls weren't even toying with the idea of coming down at that yardage. It was the best feeling ever. If that's not enough, the sound is intoxicating. The immense crash sound that alerts you to the balls launch is proportional to the jet liner yardage that it produces. If you want people to stare when you're at the range, this is the club for you. I just cannot say enough good about this club. I don't know much about shafts but mine is the stiff flex 65 m.a.s.2 low torque with a firm tip. It is the best feeling shaft I've ever tried, albeit I've never used an aftermarket shaft. If Taylor Made's other products are as good as this driver, I may soon be switching all my clubs to their stuff.

Customer Service

Haven't had any experience with Taylor Made but the guys at Don Sherwood's Golf and Tennis World in San Jose were really helpful.

This driver inspire confidence like nothing else. I never have to worry about hitting a short weak looking drive. Everything goes high and far+, even with 9.5 stiff. The mis-hits are what really defines this driver. Although good drives are good 10 yards longer and strait as a bullet, the mis-hits that would have fallen at 150 yards will still carry 200+ straiter than usual, when compared to my old 275cc Nike. Instead of feeling like weiner, I feel like a tiger just having a bad day on driving. It inspires confidence on my weakest part of game and that = to better game overall. I strongly urge everyone to try this monster. It took me an hour to get used to this thing's size, but once I got it I don't even notice it. Stock MAS shaft is great in my opinion, but may have some complaining that it's too light. And some may like the twicking of the new R7. If so, then Get some lead tapes and put it on the driver. I found this lightness to my pleasure, when compared to new R7. It also keeps my wallet heavier. Good value at a little over $225 nowadays, but not great. If you don't mind or like the big bang sound, Cobra SZ also was an excellent driver.

Customer Service

TM is definitely above average. No complaints here and improved over likes of Mizuno, which has deteriorated.

Replaced my TM 540 with this. Bought it on sale. I get about the same mileage out of both clubs, but the 580 XD is more forgiving and consistent - mainly due to larger sweetspot (440 cc vs. 350 cc). The stock regular shaft with stiff tip is nice and light (65), keeps the more consistently straight with a nice trajectory. May have preferred the Titleist 983K over this club for feel and distance, but then it is $200 more. Happy with the purchase and performance. It was invented for all skill levels.
