The BEST driver of ALL TIME!!! I'm 27 and have been playing since I was 13. My only problem which has kept me from becoming great was my poor driving. (and my putting is hurting these days too :( But be that as it may, this driver, which I received as a b-day present is the best and last driver I will EVER use for the rest of my life. In the past 14 years, I've tried everything to no avail. I was even using my 3-iron off the tee to keep in down the middle. It was fine b/c I can hit my ping zing irons a long distance, but I really wanted a good driver. Enter the r580XD w/ a factory stiff shaft. Great club!! I use the markings on the grip to line up my thumbs and it helps keep me straight with NO duck hooks. That used to be my problem...big duck hooks. They are gone now, and all I have are repeatable (over and over again) 280-300 yard drives with a nice fade. It's a great feeling. I love this club. Thanks T-M!!!

Ever since I got into golf, I began to have a fascination for drivers since it was the only club in the bag I couldn't hit consistently. I was in search of "The Holy Grail". I've played and learned with a lot of OEMs including Cleveland (VAS and Quadpro), TaylorMade (360Ti, 420 and R580), Adams (363) and SMT (455). I ended up finding a new R580 XD with a Harrison Striper shaft cheap on ebay. With the exception of my SMT being 455cc, the R580 XD at 440cc, is the most forgiving driver I've used to date. My SS is about 110-115 mph and on good hits I'm averaging 280 yards with it. On not-so-good swings, the ball still flies 200 yards. The XD inspires confidence when you need a good tee shot on long Par 4s and 5s and I'm in the fairway more often than ever. Other than the factory colors, the SMT and XD are about the same when addressed, but the XD looks better with the black finish rather than SMT red and the overall design of the sole is a lot nicer than the SMT. For now, the XD stays in my bag and the SMT sits as backup. TaylorMade comes out with some really great products and tend to stay on the leading edge of the golf technology world. It just sucks when they come out with a "longer" driver 6 months later.

Hi This is the standard on what a driver should be made like. I have tried numerous drivers over the years looking for the holy grail of all drivers and this is as close to it as you will ever come to finding. Only complaint with this driver was the factory shaft. I had purchased with the m.a.s. stiff and stiff tip and still was too much bend so I put a speeder 757 in and same result straight out till about 270yards then a hard left turn. So I took a triple kick shaft from a Zolex Explosion hammer driver and now it just goes long and straight. I avarage 310yards with a slight draw with a 10.5 loft. This driver is awsome.

I never imagined myself writing a review, but this club has had such a positive impact on my game I felt compelled to do so. I am over 50 with a swing speed in the 75-80 neighborhood. Unlike most reviewers, I have never came close to a 300 yard drive. However, my distance has increased from 180-190 to 210-230 with this club. I am now discovering new areas of the course that I play twice each week. The large head allows you to tee the ball high for increased confidence. I have been through many drivers. This is by far the best.

I had a chance to play this club a few weeks ago as a rental and I thought it was a fluke. All my drives were long and straight, easily 20 to 30 yards longer then my Adams 363-r, on average, and the recurring slice was gone. So I convinced myself to purchase the 580xd and found a great deal on Ebay. I took it to the driving range and swung away. With the exception of a couple of complete mis-hits the ball was straight and long. Not as long as on the course but 240 to 260 consistently. The upgraded shaft seems to make a big difference for me, club speed 96 to 104. I want to try this on the course again this weekend with some good balls and see how the club really plays. But given the way I was occasionally over swinging and still getting nice flight with little slice, I think this is a keeper. I would recommend this club for anyone looking for a forgiving club. With 9.5 face my ball is still taking off and flying high.

Not quite the Titleist 983K, but a great driver at any rate. Performs well, but to me, feel and sound are a bit questionable. It seems like any club with the NV shaft is great. Did I mention that I prefer this club over the R7 Quad?

Model Reviewed: Taylor Made 580XD 10.5 w/ Aldila NV 65 shaft

Just picked the 580XD up to replace my Callaway Hawkeye VFT. I got it with the Aldila NV stiff shaft. This is a great club and a great combo. Very easy to hit. I was a bit skeptical about such a big head but it is very easy to control. I've found that slowing my tempo down helps to really nail the sweet spot. I've also noticed that when I grip it down I hit it much better. I think the 45.5 inch shaft is too long. I'll probably cut at least an inch off. Overall, I'm very happy with this club. And being my second Aldila NV shaft, I really like the shaft. It provides a very nice trajectory and really helps control the shot.

Wow! Tryed this club at the local Golftown and I was killing them. I usually dont hit the ball much over 200 yds. and I was hitting this 250, 260. What a difference. You can swing as hard as you want and you will never miss the sweet spot. Consistant distance and accuracy earned it a place in my bag and it is a great value even if the price is a bit high.

Ok it's a very nice club, but after playing it for 5 months I've given it up for the 983K. Its just to hard of a head to square at 460cc and although it provides a higher ballflight and expanded COR or sweetspot, it still lacks workability, playability, and doesn't help lower my scores. I think that if you are a Taylormade Enthusiast than the R7 Quad is HEAVEN ON EARTH for golfers who want the same distance but more control, but for the lower handicap players there are better equiped drivers for you such as the Mizuno MP001, the Taylormade 510 and R7 TP models, and the Titleist 983K. Great for the shorter hitters with a low trajectory but for me its the K.

I work at Golf Galaxy in Naperville IL and have never had a complaint about their customer service. Still cant beat Callaways' but its second best.

Working at a golf store I have hit EVERYTHING literally and its definitly in the top 10 but at the moment I want a club that will help me become scratch accuracy over distance, although I still hit the 983K the farthest yet.

I just purchased the R580XD, 8.5 degree, stiff Aldila NV. WOW!. This is the most reliable driver I've ever hit. I've owned a TM TiBubble2, Callaway Steelhead Plus, Nike 350, Adams GT, and most recently the Titleist 983K. I wanted the r7, but my local Golfsmith was running a special on the R580XD and I could not justify paying $200 more for the "latest and greatest". I can now carry the ball in the air at least 240 yards. If you need a little extra distance off the tee and you've got a decent swing, this is a great club. Find one on sale today.
