I bought this driver two days ago after trading in my Cobra 427 SS. After hitting it on the range, it appears that I gained between 10-25 yds, and the ball flight is always straight. The sound of the drive is a bit muffled compared to the Cobra's high-pitch sound (which I miss a little).

can not believe that there is that much difference between drivers. Had been a BIG Titleist fan for past few years. Thought the E series was the ticket. The XD is without a doubt the longest, best controlled driver I have ever hit. The stock shaft is GREAT... gram weight, torque, bend point is all a person needs. TM did a great job with this one, almost specs out to a prolite 35...

I was very happy with test driving the 580XD. I notice that I was able to draw the ball naturally and even my miss hits went further. More importantly, my miss hits did not get away from center as much as other clubs I have used. I went

my previous driver was the Callaway Hawkeye VFT (9 deg.) it was a great driver in common, but not to easy to control sometimes (to manipulate a fade/draw) but with the 580XD I can hit it just the way I like it, while not loosing forgiveness, I had the shaft replaced, there's a UST 65 Gold (the yellow one) in my secret weapon (580XD) now. and It's just great! it's crazy long as well, I hit it constantly for about 290/300 Yds, with powerswing 330!! it's just incredible!

Customer Service

customer service is great! about 3 weeks after i got the club i somehow shattered the back side. they replaced it no questions asked

The scientific bit I'll leave to other reviewers. These are my hard and fast facts. Old Driver: King Cobra Ti Titanium oversize 11.5 degree. New Driver: TM 580 XD 9.5 degree s90 (stiff) Constants : Taylor Made RAC LT irons Precept Extra Spin balls (not the longest ball by any stretch of the imagination) The Facts : I'm leaving the par 4's out of my comparison as up to 400 yard par 4's are a drive and a varying degree wedge (3/4 hit, chip and run etc). Par 5 Comparisons: 487 yards : Old - Drive & 5 iron Now - Drive & 8 iron 477 yards (uphill) : Old - Drive & 3 iron Now - Drive & 5 iron 620 yards : Old - Drive, 3 wood full wedge Now - Drive, 3 wood 20yd pitch 518 yards : Old - Drive & 3 iron Now - Drive & 5 iron It's there for all to see, there's a 2/3 irons difference equating to between 30 and 45 yards. It does exactly what is sez on the tin, there's a resonating cliiiiing on the drives that even sounds muscular. One problem tho, it just flies poker straight, so if I need to shape a draw I have to take the King Cobra out of the bag. The benefits of this driver on par 4's is that it now puts a premium on your short game, if you can guage distances with pitches, chip and runs your scores will tumble. To finish my tale; I had 3 eagle putts and a birdie putt on the par 5's and walked off with pars on all of them ! So this club will improve your distance by upto 50 yards I guess, but if like me you can't putt for nuts it's not necessarily a fast-track means to shave 4-5 shots off your round. But I tell you what, it won't half put a smile on your face walkin that extra 50 yards to your ball, ENJOY !

Customer Service

I knew what I wanted, thanks in no small part to the reviewers here, pro shop just confiremed my findings - no mechanical breakdowns yet.

I Used to be a 7 handicapper last year and then I purchased this driver. WOW!! is the best word I can decribe this driver. I used to use a Callaway VFT driver that gets me 250-265 yards off the tee and I thought that it was acceptable and then I went to test out a few drivers at Golfsmith and the launch monitor showed that I was crushing the TMR580XD 280-310 yards with a draw. the closest driver that came to this was the 983K which I averaged 260-280 yards. Not only is this thing a monster off the tee but its also the most forgiving club I've ever played with. SInce then, I've shot all but 3 rounds in the seventies, outta over 40 rounds. It makes the game alot easier when you hit 10/14 fairways a rounds and the game becomes Driver/wedge and putt for a bird. The standard shaft is decent and will accomodate most golfers of any level. I purchased the 10.5 degree, love the high ball flight and low spin rate. Off the toe hits and center hits will give you an awesome feel while heel hits will still get you somewhere in the middle but considerably less distance. For me its about 235-250 on heel hits. Taylor Made has outdone themselves with this one and no wonder its the #1 driver on tour. NOTE: have you guys noticed that alot of PGA pros are using the new TaylorMade R7 drivers during the Houston Open? Its the next big thing in golf. Trust me on that. You can adjust your own launch angle with the 4 weight plugs to hit high/low or fade/draws. The driver looks awesome and from what I hear from my buddies in Japan, they are out-hitting their R580XD by a good 10-15 yards with this one. (COR 0.86)

I finally found it. After 5 weeks of trying different drivers with different shaft combinations. Tried at least 18 holes and 50 driving range balls with...Cobra 427,440,380..Callaway BB11,Callaway Fusion ERC,Cleveland400..some of these with two differnt shafts. Finally tried the 580XD with a stock stiff, regular and medium ( all played 18 holes and many range balls). After settling on medium ( I am not afraid to say Senior). and reshafting with an Aldila Longwood 50/50 regular, with 2" added length this shaft has a 4.5 torque compared to the 3.5 in the stock shaft and a medium tip compared to stiff., taking it from a D3 to a D8. It was then , the shaft started to help and the club head really CLICKED like it should, I felt like the shft was helping me. I added 20-30 yards to my distance and it really felt good to not be the first one to hit on the second shot. I am 72 and happy as hell to be hitting it down the middle ahead of these young retirees. My swing speed is 83-85 and I love the lag and feel of this shaft. I believe there is a right shaft for everyone and have done a lot of research on it. Stiff is straight but shorter, you should always try and use the longest and most flexible shaft that you can CONTROL.A lot of golfers cannot control a lot of flex, I can and love it.This is one old F-rt that is very happy with his 580 XD.
