Titleist 975J Drivers

Titleist 975J Drivers

DESCRIPTION

A new 300cc Prototype Driver... the 975J has been seen in many Tour bags early in '01. Very similar look to its wildly popular predecessor the 975D. Just slightly larger and with a different look to the face... scoreing lines are placed in an "insert" look a'la the Callaway GBB. ~CB

I have been playing the 975J for the past 9 months with a EI-70 shaft with 8.5 degrees of loft. Couldn't be more happy with it. Small club head, and surprisingly long. Looking to upgrade to the 983K. Titleist drivers is where it's at!

Bought this club on eBay for $75 and could not be more pleased with it. I've always had trouble working the ball left to right, but it's much easier with this club than my Cleveland Launcher 400 (although the Launcher is a bit longer). Great driver, great shaft - highly recommended.

First off i got this driver on ebay for 100$.This driver which i think is a two year old model surpasses my newer tm r540 in distance(by the way is also a great driver).Im not real picky about head size, for me it just has to be at least 300cc and at absolute most 400cc. Anyone looking to retain a slightly smaller head sze but keep up in distance to the newer models should give this driver a try.To me this driiver sets up perfectly at adress i love the finish on the top and the sound at impact is very satisfactory.all the clubs i own from titleist are very solid clubs, i am going to continue buying titleist and taylormade clubs for a very long time.

well, at the start i had a a taylor made 200 steel, which really wasn't amazing to say the least. it went no wer at all. i was straight enough with it tho wich i suppose was a good point. i decided i needed a new driver and i needed more distance off the tee. i am only about 5ft7 or 5ft8 and i am 16 playing off 8 handicap. all of ma friends are taller than me and hit the ball past me easily. so i got the 975J of ma mate for a great price of £120 and he had only had it for 2 weeks. i hit it just as straight as my taylor made but add on about 30-40 yards easily. when i catch hold of it out of the middle i can hit it anywer up to 280 yards wich is a big distance for sumbody of my size. i have a E1-70 stiff shaft in it and it is 10.5 degrees. i Love this driver to bits and i suggest if you are looking for a good driver wich will add on the yardage but still keep the ball in play, that you should give this baby a try. one of my most treasured clubs in my bag. hoping to get down too 4 or 3 by the end of this year. and this driver is deffinately going to help me.

I have been playing golf for 2 years now. I've been trying out alot of different drivers. I had a taylor made 200 series and it felt like I am hitting a rock. So, I purchase a Nike 275cc driver and it felt like I am hitting a bigger rock. The distance of those driver is about the same ( 250 yards if I hit it good ). I am sick of all my friends out drove me and determine to get a good driver once and for all. My friend let me play with his driver ( 983k ) for a few holes. It is awesome!! but I don't have $400 bucks to blow. He suggested I buy a Titleist 975J. So, I checked it out online and read alot of good review about it and finally purchase it on Ebay. I am 5'5, 125 lbs soaking wet, and I kid you not, I drove the ball into the left bunker on a par 4, 300 yards first try. I literally dropped my jaw and blink my eyes a few times of amazement. Drive after drive, I average about 290 yards now, 40 yards longer. My game improved so much more because I am using a wedge instead of a 7 iron for my approach shot. I shoot high 80's before and I shoot low 80's now. If I knew 975J help me that much I would of pay twice as much for it any day. 312cc is perfect, not too big, not too small. Extremely forgiving and smooth. Good luck in finding one.

I have been hitting the Taylor Made 200 Steel for the past couple of years. I got a set of Titleist 990's so I wanted to get some woods to match. I got this baby in a 7.5 degree by accident on Ebay. I thought it was a 9.5. Went and hit it for the first time today. Wow, now I know why Tiger hits this baby. My shortest drive of the day was 245 with a severe slice. My best was a monster drive of 350. I can't believe I can hit a 7.5 degree. That shows you how forgiving this thing is. Go out and get you one right now.

I have wasted the last two years of my golf life. If I new what if felt like to hit this club I would have bought it for $500 2 years ago. The last two drivers I've had (Cleveland Quadpro, Nicklaus Air Max 360) were nice, but this club is in another league. Cannot believe the control I have. Snd the distance!!!!!!! Wow I have never felt so confident over a ball. I never knew I could be this pinpoint with a driver!!!!

So far, so good. I've used this driver only twice, played a couple of nines. The first drive I hit on the range was a hook. Then I hit about 6 more dead straight. The last 9 I played I went to a course with no driving range and hit the 1st ball center cut in the fairway in windy conditions. I ended up shooting 34 (par 36) on a course that I shot 92 in a tournament this summer. I had been playing a Hawkeye for about 3 years. I came to the point that I didn't have any confidence in it. When I started a round I would pick out my target (usually in the center of the fairway) and hook a few left. Then I would compensate and aim down the right side and end up pushing the ball farther right. I played 1 tournament this year (2 weekend event) and that's pretty much the way it went. It was pretty frustrating. A couple of friends of mine had the 975J and I read most of the reviews on this site so I decided to give it a whirl. It has the Fujikura 70-S Protype (Vista Tour 70) shaft in it and 8.5 loft. Its probably a little longer than my Hawkeye but the most important thing is I feel like I can take a rip at it and drive the ball where I'm aiming. For the price I paid I think I'll be very happy with this driver for quite awhile.

Holy mother of god. This is what i have been looking for so long. I can at last hit a straight as an arrow golf shot with perfect trajectory almost every time. If you catch this off the centre you will experience the most fantastic crushing velocity of all time. It rips. This is the illegal US version, but OK for the UK i'm told, and you gotta try it. I had a 975d with ei-70 stiff before and it was good, but frankly not much longer than my VFT Callaway 3 wood in all honesty, I didnt like the shaft either. Previously had ERC2 (which was wildly inconsistent) and Ping Tisi (which was Ok, but no better) Tried a R580 with Graffaloy Blue which was long but needed a smooth slow swing which wasnt me. This is the first driver that i have tried that you can rip as i do my 3 wood and it responds el fantastico! Try it, Mate bought a 983K which was good, but no better (not as long if anything) I have gained i reckon 25 yards over the D and straight which is the best i have ever hit. I drove a 310 yard par 4 through the back yesterday (approx 330) and this is just incredible. I am not making wild exaggerations like some i have read, but i do think i can average 280 yards with this in good conditions when i catch out the middle. Off centre hits forgiving, but can lose approx 30 yards on the high cor slap from the centre hits. Try this club. You wont regret it. I dont think anything is any better (still) for the more aggressive player and you don't have to be a pro to hit it, like some suggest. I sound like i work for Titleist, but that's cos i could'nt use a driver on the course before with any reliability. The tour beckons.(ahem) Good luck with your game

Model Reviewed: Titleist 975J 9.5 with various shafts

This is a shaft intensive review. Im a high handicapper and mechanical engineer who happens to love physics. I don’t score low because I simply do not play enough to improve my game, but I do understand much of the physics behind golf (believe me the equipment co’s don’t want you to know). I also make my own clubs and have re-shafted my drivers as often as necessary. My swing speed is 110mph and I have driven the ball 280-290 periodically. I don’t have a major flight flaw; sometimes the ball fades and sometimes is draws. My goal in re-shafting the 975J was increased control – I could not get consistent accuracy with the stock shaft but it did feel great at impact. I admit a large part of the inconsistency was me and not the club itself - I was suffering from some slight errors in hand rotation (or ‘release’ whatever that means) My shaft observations: EI-70 Tour Stiff – excellent shaft for the money – nice high bend point and lower shaft twist than equivalently spec’d competition, i.e. better control. Moderate weight is better suited for faster swingers. UST Pro Force 65 Stiff – didn’t like this one at all…in fact, I hated it. Too much twist (‘torque’ is one of those stupid golf equipment terms that don’t make any sense – how a force is measured in degrees is beyond me). I could literally feel the club head open on toe hits and watch the ball fade/slice away into the rough. Although it was similarly spec’d for twist, it did not feel as tight as the EI-70. This shaft did feel great at impact. Innovative Comp Tour 702 – the best shaft for my swing and not a lot of dough ($38). Only 2.5 degrees of twist or “torque” (yuk, there’s that pesky term again). Going from UST to this was simply breathtaking. Does not feel as smooth at impact. For the ultimate in control nothing beats metal. I’ve used different TTs and Rifle and all work very well for control. You do loose a little distance however. Reshafting a lightweight graphite with a control metal shaft offers lower traj which is good under many circumstances. Also for control in fast swings, don’t even consider the sub 70 gram graphite unless you want to pay more money (I looked at shafts in the $70 range but wanted to use something cheaper – after all its just graphite) Great (and revealing) article about shaft “torque” http://www.golfworks.com/article_display.asp?ArticleID=36&bhcd2=1067288228 In summary, the 975J with a low twist moderate weight graphite shaft is excellent for fast swinging control and distance. Stock shaft should work fine for good golfers with moderate speed swings. Btw, the Titleist does not use a 0.350” shaft – the actual hosel bore is 0.340, so I used a 0.335 with beads. Good luck, don’t dwell on the score and enjoy the outing.
