Model Reviewed: Wilson Deep Red, 10.5*, Regular

I just sold my Deep Red, after giving it several months to win me over. I loved the looks of this club, which swayed me to buy it in the first place. I had played with Fat Shaft irons in the past and thought the low-torque Grafalloy Fat shaft might help me stay in the fairway more often. When I caught this club just right, it felt very powerful and it was fairly accurate. The biggest problem I had with it was the loss of distance on mis-hits. Also, if I took a little off my swing, I was getting no distance. I settled on the Cleveland Quadpro Ti with Bi-matrix shaft and I've never hit a driver better. The Wilson DRD is a gorgeous club, but it wasn't as forgiving as I would have hoped. My co-worker bought one (8,5*, Stiff) and he isn't hitting it very well either. When he catches one, he can hit it 300+ yards, but he's not very consistent with it. Great looks, but didn't do it for me.

Great club, very forgiving, long with alot of roll. This driver is about 15 yards longer than my TaylorMade burner Ti. Avg about 250 off tee now around 265. It's worth every penny. Shafts are alittle wimpy if you use regular hit a stiff with this one.

stuck a drive on a par three two feet from the hole. won a deep red driver. wilson? some comedian is named wilson. gets lots of laughs. used the deep red on next four rounds and stopped laughing. drives are consistently straight and approach 300 or better. i was shooting low 80's, see above. still have to hit the ball correctly but this club is so forgiving i just take it out of my bag, walk up to the ball and hit it. nice club

I have reached the end of a 3 year driver search. Long and straight, sometimes with a draw. This stick is great. I plan on hitting more fairways and knocking my handicap down this year. Thank you Wilson!!

Deep Red Driver does not meet my expectation for its lack of feel. I found it difficult to hit the ball straight, and ended up hitting many push shots from the tee. To make it worse, this driver gave me no feedback whatsoever, therefore makes it hard to improve your game.
I also would not call it a success for the Grafalloy Fat Shaft in this driver, simply because it kills the feeling a golfer ought to have after hitting shots. The impact sound of club face to the ball is also terrible, casting doubts on the quality of the club face.
This is a trendy driver, with a lot of marketing gimmicks. Interested buyers please make sure you hit the driver on the range or take it to the course to see if you are happy with the consistency and feel of Deep Red. After few rounds with Deep Red I returned it to exchange Mizuno T-Zoid forged Ti, and I am much more satisfied with the distance, consistency, and feel of Mizuno.
A driver is expensive these days, so make sure you buy a classic one, one that can still fit you as your game improve, can correct your bad swing, therefore can even improve your game.
If you are looking for a fancy, pretty new driver and buy into the pricy commercials from Wilson, buy this driver. If you are looking for a classic that you can put in your bag for quite some time, avoid this one.

Very straight driver. Wants to go staight, or a slight draw. Best looking club on the market. Has a tendency to have a high trajectory some balooning in the high wind. This driver has added considerable length compared to my Steelhead.

I am amazed at the performance of this new driver. I tried it on the range and found it to be very straight - an unusual thing for me. I was putting on my wish list for a few months until the head and shaft of my Mizuno T3 parted company. I didn't need a second excuse.
I tried the Deep Red again on the range with the same results. You still need to hit it correctly, as with any other club, but my habitual slice has disappeared completely. Distance seems unaffected either way....but fairways are looking like more of a probability now than a possibility.
Well done Wilson - great product.

The "Fat Shaft" technology is no gimmick. Shots hit off the toe and heel are very forgiving with this club. I was able to slow my swing down without loosing any distance, and gaining more accuracy. Lower ball flight than the Callaways. 10-15 yards longer than my Callaway (with UST Gold 65 shaft)with same swing speed. A little pricey like most new drivers.

Was using the Orlimar 7.5 with a stiff shaft and producing 240-260 yard drives on average. Deep Red 7.5 with the extra stiff shaft gives 260-280 yard drives on average. When hit squarely (about 2 times per round) have drives of 295 and 305 yards. If you are use to a stiff shaft, I would recommend you get an extra stiff shaft on the Big Red.

Model Reviewed: Wilson Deep Red fat shaft driver

Just purchased the Deep Red driver from my local driving range. I got £75 pounds part-exchange for my Mizuno Mighty Big Titanium driver, even though I only paid £40 for it 3 months ago. Recently I have been a little wild with the old driver, tending to slice a lot of shots, I read that the technology of the Deep Red helps to reduce slice. AND it does, I hit about 30 shots with the driver taped up and it sounded and felt really solid. The graphite shaft is superb, I have quite a slow swing but I was hitting 190 to 240 yards with no problem with very cheap range balls. I cannot wait to get on the course and match up against some quality topflite balls. Overall, a club which has great feel, the shaft is superb, the grip is quite short but I only have small hands so this suits me fine. The club head sits perfectly behind the ball at address and gives you the confidence to know that you are going to hit a great tee shot. The price in england is £249, compared to other titanium drivers I think that is great value for money. Right, lets go and hit the course!!
