Lefty Callaway X-14, Constant weight steel shafts
Great club--just not my personal favorite. The offset--although less than the older models--is tough for me to align properly, especially the long irons. Ball flight is too high for my liking, as well. If you need/like a higher ball flight, these would be a great club; maybe a stiffer shaft would be better. This is a VERY forgiving club; only the worst sh*nks (never say that word!) are unplayable. I like a little more feedback in my irons. Swingweight is a little on the light side for my liking, as well (this is easily adjusted, however). In summary, I like these irons for almost everybody--but me; very forgiving, pretty club--just not MY preferences. I like an iron with very little offset, more feel, and a lower trajectory. Wish I''d never sold my Hogans; I''ll go back to forgings... None I''m a new golfer, and purchased these clubs because of their reputation for foregiveness. I can only say that I am pleased and very impressed. The sweet spot is large, even allowing off-center hits to get substantial distance. The flight of the ball is very high on the short irons, allowing you to stick the ball on the green. For the long irons, I hit 20-30 yards longer with the X-14s than I did with the Titleist 981s (which may be great clubs, but not for beginners). I have no idea how the X-14s would feel in the hands of a low handicapper, but for a beginner I can''t recommend them highly enough. Customer Service No contact Similar Products Used: Titleist 981 |

None The clubs are very forgiving on mis-hits. Almost too forgiving for that matter. It''s hard to tell what exactly I did wrong with the swing. The only way I can tell is by the sound at impact and the ball flight. I''ve hit other clubs and it''s easier to understand what I did wrong by what I felt in the club during impact. When I make solid contact with the ball it takes off (and sometimes goes too far). My scores have gone down since I started playing with the X-14s, so I can''t complain. I just wish I''d get a little more feed back from my mis-hits, but then I''d be sacrificing the distance and control on those shots. Maybe there are better clubs out there for me. I did hit a Hogan Apex Edge 5 Iron at a demo day. I hit it farther than my X-14''s and straighter, and the feedback was better. My advice is to check out a bunch of clubs and find out what suits you best. Don''t by a club for it''s brand name.. Similar Products Used: None |

None ...I have tried all the irons and by far these are the best. I had trouble at first but after a few rounds realized I had to slow down my swing and let the club do the work. I hit the 4 iron further than any other 4 iron I have hit. The ball simply sails far and straight.I hit the graphite reg flex. These are winners...thx Callaway Customer Service Had clubs made to my specs and customer service was fast and good Similar Products Used: Everything you can think of - a club junkie. |

None I am 15 and a 16 handicap. The first time I picked up these culbs I could consistently hit them long, crisp and most importantly straight. I have a short stature, but I can still get 195 out of the 4 and around 180 out of the 5. Compared to my Ping I3''s, I''m able to get amazing back spin with the PW and 9 with the X-14''s. None I have been playing for 5 years and previously owned King Cobra II irons...my only set. I had no plans to change clubs for 1 more year until offered these ex-demos. It has taken me 3 months or so to adjust and I believe this is because my swing was so inconsistent. It seems as though the Callaways will feedback any swing issues (the ball has disappeared in all sorts of exotic directions). I have now settled my swing down to something I believe is rythmical and relaxed and the clubs have started to build a confidence I never had. I used to hit my Cobra PW around 140, and then in 10 yard increments upwards per iron. Sometimes I would hit out of the sweet spot but could be erratic or quite good. Today with the Callaways I am 5 yards longer with the PW and 10 yards longer with the longer clubs.......215 with the 4 iron and 203 with the 5 iron. The sweet spot seems large although missing the centre of the club still results in the ball going straight straight and just as long, but I absolutely have to focus on swinging the club, never hitting the ball. I am very happy with these clubs (now) and am delighted I took up the bargain offer without ever having hit them ! Similar Products Used: None |
