Orlimar SF302 Irons

Orlimar SF302 Irons

DESCRIPTION

The rich finish is indicative of its high chromium content with just a touch of copper. The distinctive heel spine adds a dimension of style while lowering the center of gravity behind the axis and expanding the sweet spot.

I bought the firm steel rifle shafts, they areawesome. I hit every club further and straighter. There is a more piercing ball flight. My only criticism is that they didn't stamp the # of th iron on the back or front of the club, it is only on the bottom. I'll get over it.

I was playing with Ram FX's and they were fine. My woods were Orlimar and they are STUPENDOUS. So, when I saw these clubs (yet older iron model for Orlimar), I had to try them. I bought them after my first round and don't wish to play with anything else. I am confident I can get my game into the 70's now. THESE ARE GREAT CLUBS!!!!!!!!

I noticed a set of these irons in a local discount house and was impressed with the look and feel of the clubs. I immediately went home and searched Ebay for these clubs and was amazed to find them for sale @ $159.00 (almost giving them away) After the first round I played with them I sold my Taylor Ti Bubble 2 irons and these clubs have pride of place in my bag. I find that they seem to hit the ball longer and lower than what I had been used too and felt that they may be strongly lofted. When hit sweetly you cannot hardly feel the ball off the club at all and the Rapport shafts give really great feedback. At $159.00 they must represent the best valued club available

Got these clubs after reading all the positive reviews written on this site, and I can say the gamble paid off. These are truly a "game improving" irons. My old Lynx blades outwore their service so I moved on to the Titleist 962, mistake, tried DDH for a while, but any wind and the shots just balloned. These clubs hold their trajectory in the windest of conditions, and believe me we've seen some wind in this Country this year, and they stay on line. The feel of these club I read as being BUTTERY, I suppose it's one way of saying it, you don't get that positive CLICK on contact that you get with the LYNX, or TITLEIST but it's similar feel to the old Callaways, and if you do hit it with the face closed a bit, you do get to know it, all game improving clubs will do that, but NO PAIN, NO GAIN. Thank you Orlimar and thanks to all those golf freaks who did bother to write in their views, which lead me to buying these excellent clubs.

Prices are stupid low on these now (around $200 or less)..I paid $300 and they were still a bargain. Super feel...that's where these excel. Forgiveness above average, in that toe hits cost distance but not as much direction, unlike most "player" cavity backs. VERY low bounce angles on these, meaning possibly prone to fat shots and a tad more forgiving for one hit a bit thin. I think the 3 iron and maybe 4 actually have negative bounce...increasing to the pitching wedge, which has only around 2 degrees bounce...that is not much at ALL. Great for chipping for that same reason however. Superior stock shafts...Precision Performance Flighted. Lighter weight than the ol' fav Dynamic Gold. Shaft length and modern (see strong) lofts make these as long as any iron you need; increased exactly one club in length from my Ram FX OS, which are heavier and shorter in overall length. These are unique feeling irons, that only get better with time. Most people will dump them long before they realize their benefits, as the narrow profile and unique look and feel are a bit different from most player CBs (these are longer and shallower, like the Maxfli Rev midsize). I played them for a few rounds and went back to the trusty Rams...then after a half year went back to them and haven't looked back since...superior feel and distance, greatly rewarding crisp contact. The U grooves will shred soft covered balls, but gives you great spin. One thing, the stock grips are NOT good. They look great, but are very cheap...very thin with very poor traction. They actually feel a grip size smaller than regular in the hands; they are that flimsy. When I put 'em back in my bag, I regripped with full cords, and the difference is night and day; well worth the small investment. To like these, you should like traditional looking understated clubs, enjoy softer feeling irons (some like a harder feel), like lighter shafts (not a DG loyalist), and not mind a bit of progressive offset (not bad, but definitely there). At address, the look like a long blade, and the topline is medium thin. You cannot see the cavity at address on any of the irons. Very clean look...fans of bulky irons (TA5, X12, even supersteels) will think these look WAY too hard to hit...but really they aren't, except maybe on fat shots: those others have wider soles and much more bounce to help you out.

After having taken a few lessons and playing consistently for a year, I hadn’t improved my short game much at all. I decided to go against my instincts and actually upgrade my irons. I read many reviews on the SF302’s and I must admit that I was skeptical at first simply because they were discontinuing them. I was more serious about purchasing a set of Taylor Made or Callaway irons because of their popularity. I haven’t played a variety of clubs like most so I didn’t have much to compare to. Until I discovered a fantastic deal on a set of SF302’s, I couldn’t make up my mind. I decided to purchase them because I figured that I didn’t have much to loose since they were so inexpensive. I haven’t regretted it yet. The first time out I noticed a difference in them immediately. They are very forgiving despite the attractive looking petite club head. They look like blades, but they play like cavity backs. I can feel the ball better. Getting it into in the air is effortless on short grass and even dirt. I knocked off 10 strokes in just a few weeks. It took only two months of learning the club a bit better to move from averaging 104 to 86. I loose a stroke or two every game it seems. I can seriously see myself averaging mid 80’s before too long once I have fine-tuned my swing. It’s a great feeling as a beginner to worry more about strategy of the game than swinging at a ball.

I have always been a little skeptical of Orlimar, but when I swung these clubs, they instantly felt solid. I wanted a blade, but these gave me consistancy, playability, and forgiveness...something that you can't argue with. Orlimar only made a few thousand sets of the SF302, and never marketed them. Despite a reputation as making clubs for high handicappers, these clubs were made more towards mid-low handicappers. Anyways, it is a great club and can be had for dirt cheap.

These are fine clubs for someone like me who prefers a smaller iron head. The heads are a very handsome low-profile design, and look really solid and easy to aim at address. They are just as forgiving as my Callaway X-12 irons, and at least 10 yards longer with a less-strenuous swing that minimizes swing errors. The trajectory is ideal in my estimation, better than the X-12s which I feel launch the ball too high. You have to be careful to sweep the longer irons (5, 4 and 3) as you would a fairway wood since the heads have a tendency to dig and cause fat shots if you hit down on them too sharply. It is common knowledge, of course, that even a great set of clubs will do little or nothing for you if a decent basic swing is missing, and these clubs are no exception to this rule. They are designed, however, to minimize the bad effects of typical off-center hits by the positioning of weight progressively from heel to toe as you move from PW through to the 3 Iron. My experience has been that this works surprisingly well without making it hard to work the ball. The square "U Grooves" help to spin the ball from light rough, but they seem to shave some surlyn off the cover as did the first Pings before the company corrected this problem. I told Orlimar about this via Email, and received a prompt reply offering to examine them and replace the heads if necessary, although they thought the problem sometimes occurs with some new clubs, and should lessen and eventually disappear with use. This speaks well for their Customer Service policy. The bottom line is that these are excellent sticks that can currently be had at a bargain price!

These irons look and feel like a blade with a small cavity. The way Orlimar designed the weight to shift for each club is an awesome feature. The Lamkin grips, precision flighted shafts, and excellent clubhead design, all for $300 makes this the deal to beat!
