TaylorMade 300 Irons

TaylorMade 300 Irons

DESCRIPTION

From TaylorMade: "The traditional look comes from the thin topline, mirror chrome finish, straight leading edge and minimal offset. The modern conveniences of optimal weighting and center of gravity are achieved through TaylorMade's exclusive trapezoidal cavity pad, which is placed behind the impact zone to maintain ball velocity and preserve feel. Like the 320 and 360 irons, the long irons in the Forged 300 set have negative bounce to help create lift, while the short irons have positive bounce to prevent ballooned shots."

These clubs are awesome. Solid feel and balanced perfectly. Don't believe the crap about this club only being suited for low handicappers. I was a shooting in the 115-125 before with my cast taylormade supersteels. Granted you lose a lot of distance with mis-hits, unlike the other cast clubs, but they still go fairly straight, which still helps on the scores. the long irons are alot easier to hit also. easy to hit draws and fades with these beauties. Go ahead and try them out. They're worth every penny.

Shoots in the 90s

I purchased the 300s based partially on the reviews here and wanted to post my perspective as a guy who shoots in the low 90s. No question these are really nice clubs - they look and feel great and play very solid. I am a decent iron player for my handicap (18) and I chose the forged blades because I wanted better accuracy with my short irons, which the 300s deliver. Unfortunately, the mid and long irons (from 7 up) cost me too many strokes on off-center hits. When hit well, the shots look beautiful and go long. But marginal shots that were forgiven by my previous (firesole) irons would fall 10-15 yards short. For me with mid/long irons that's about 40% of the time, which costs me way too many strokes. If you are a good ball stiker and want the feel of forged clubs then I think these are a great choice - definitely easier to hit and more fogiving than typical blades. But if you're in the 15-18 range I would caution against the 300s and go for either the 320s or 200s. The extra forgiveness on slightly off-center hits is VERY noticable and not as subtle as some reviewers have indicated. If I could keep only the 8-PW from the 300s I definitely would do that...Instead, I am going to trade them in for 320s this afternoon.

I bought these clubs after testing them on my local club's practice ground, and having read some of the reviews on this site. Obviously, because of the high-profile nature of some of the tour players that were raving about them, these clubs have been hyped up quite a lot. But they really are beautiful. I can safely say that I enjoy getting these babies out of the bag at the weekend. And that's really what's it's all about, unless you're being paid to play. I've had some bad rounds as well as a PB this season. Like all "player's" clubs, you will pay if your swing is off, but you'll enjoy practicing much more than you would with your nasty cast products. In a different league from the DCIs I was playing before. Get the right shaft. I went for the Dynamic Gold, but the Rifles are nice too. Playing in England, you need a shaft will a slightly lower trajectory, but that may not be true in Florida.

Customer Service

Local pro is TaylorMade affiliate (also plays on the Euro Senior Tour). Very helpful with shaft choice.

Wow! I never thought I would find a successor to my Hogan Apex Blades but I think I have! I was a fairly good ballstriker when I was younger and the Hogan blades really did it for me. I never hit any set longer. Once I started getting back into golf I knew that a cavity-back was the way to go. But the FEEL!! I put up with a lack of feel for long enough and decided I'd get a set of what I call "compromise" irons, a forged club that is nearly a blade, but retains some cavity-back forgiveness. And I have found them in the TaylorMade 300 Forged. I know my hero Ernie Els plays them and for sure that helped pique my interest, but these really are wonderful clubs. I was playing Ping I-3 and did well with them, but I feel I can control these irons better. I feel I can hit the weird benders better with the TaylorMade. And I also think I can get more distance with the TaylorMade. Mis-hits are OK, not great, but they certainly force one to make good contact first. It's a good training tool as well, and I am enjoying the challenge. That's because when you do make good contact, these clubs are like butter. I'm really happy I took the plunge and got them. Definitely check the internet for specials or auctions, I wouldn't think one should have to pay more than $500 for these.

Customer Service

I haven't had the opportunity to deal with them yet.

These are great clubs.!!! I have 3-PW and want to get a 2 iron and 1 iron if available. The long irons are soo easy to hit. I feel very confident with them, the long iron every time. These irons suit my swing very well. Their minimal offset is not hard to hit but easy. I have an easier time hitting these than clubs with offset. I have an old set of Lynx irons tour, but with alot of offset and I cant hit them as well as these. What I can say is that I love these clubs and not a fraid to hit any shot cuz my shots turn on great results. They are very accurate, i can control the trajectory, and they very straight. You can work the ball too. I highly recommend these clubs. If you want to play with confidence, get these clubs. They look and feel great. Try them I am sure you would like them. They are forged and do scratch and ding faster than cast. Thats only negative thing. But they produce great results.

I think these clubs have an amazing feel. They are very soft. I originally had the stock rifles in them, and if anything it felt too soft using some of the current multilayer balls. I reshafted them with DG's and the feel is perfect now (I reshafted to get a lower ball flight). In my experience distances are a reflection of loft. These have slightly weaker lofts than the current 'standard', and hence are slightly shorter than game improvement irons (I had mine bent 2 degrees weaker in the 4-pw to narrow my yardages even further). Off center hits are very good for a 'blade', but not as forgiving than other game improvement clubs I've played. Like all soft, forged clubs, they ding up very easily. I've only had one significant defect (a rock I didn't see took a deep gouge out of my 5 iron) though. I find the feel to be very similar to the mp-33's and the hogan apex's, while being slightly more forgiving than either. For me these werethe perfect compromise (especially after customizing them to how I wanted them).

Harsh, half-club short and lousy feel. Can't understand all the hubbub on these clubs. Callaway, Ping and Mizuno all have much better offerings. I dumped the 300's after two rounds.

WOW! What a club. I`ve been using Ping I3`s for the last two years. I thought I would never switch. I, like every other mid handicapper, thought these would be to difficult for me to hit. Sure miss hits don`t fly as far. Didn`t lose much though. I don`t think I can ever go back to cast, offset, muted, and dead feeling clubs. I finally found true love in agolf club. If you shoot in the 80`s, don`t be affraid to try these. They are probably the most forgiving forged blade like Iron`s I`ve ever hit. The lies are a little flat, so some adjusting or fitting might need to be done.

Customer Service

Haven`t need it.

Have been golfing for 10 years & owned lots of irons , but these irons are the best so far. Good distance , easy to work the ball right to left , etc. , nice weighting (can feel the club in the backswing) , great grips , etc. Because they are a forged blade , it is my opinion that the higher handicappers might want to stick with an iron that is progressively offset .. these clubs are meant for a lower handicapper who wants to work the ball. At this point , I think it might be a difficult adjustment for me to go back to an offset club , after being spoiled by the TM 300's !! I highly recommend these clubs.

Customer Service

not needed so far , but the TM retailer (Golf Central) has been excellent !
