Early 2001 I made the decision to get serious about my game. I got properly fitted by a PGA professional and had a set of Titleist 990s made for me. My shot making improved dramatically. I really enjoy the feel of these irons, especially the short and mid-irons. I usually shoot in the low 90s but with these clubs have had some break through rounds of mid 80s. I have lost some distance but gain alot more control and am hitting more greens in regulation. This year i expect to shoot in the high 80s regularly and have break though rounds in the low 80s. These clubs have made a difference in my game. I have read reviews warning the high handicapper to stay away from these clubs. I couldn''t disagree more. If you like the feel and feedback of making good shots, these clubs deliver. I use to play with Pennick (Golfsmith) oversized cavity backs with off set. Shot making with these clubs was boring. Every now and then I play with the Pennick clubs just to remind me how sweet the 990s are. My recommendation is if you are a weekend golfer and not willing to put practice time in then save yourself money and buy lesser quality clubs. But if you want great feel and workability, play these clubs but be prepared to put practice time in. Customer Service I was custom fitted and Titelist factory made the clubs to order. No problems. Quick delivery. Similar Products Used: Tight Lies strong 3, Calloway Great Big Bertha (8 degree driver), 975J Driver, McGregory wedges. |

one of the best iron sets i plaied in my life (i play a solid 2 chp). some other reviews rate these sticks really bad , well don''t look at them : if you shoot in the 70s and don''t like these irons, well you just don''t shoot in the 70s ! sorry... let''s be serious i always played forged muscle back irons, like the mizuno tp9 and tp19. the titleist look just great, feel really sweet, you can work the ball both ways, low or high... no need to say i wouldn''t hav switched to irons shorter than my mizuno... with dyna lite S-shafts i gained 12 yards on short irons and 17+ on the long ones. yet you have to be a good ball-hitter to enjoy them. Best irons I have ever used. I had a set of Hogan Apex blades before these and the 990''s feel much better. They have the appearance of a blade at setup but still have some forgiveness. I don''t expect to use anything but Titleist clubs for a long time because compared to other clubs on the market the Titleist is by far superior. I use Titleist Vokey 258.08 lob wedge and plan to put a 975J driver into my bag very soon. NOTE: Be sure to get custom fitted and remember the lofts on the 990''s are a little weak, so you high hitters might want to have them bent 1 or 2 degrees stronger. Another option would be a stiffer shaft. Try these clubs as soon as you can even if you buy them at a retail store they are only $467.00 (GOLF DISCOUNT) Similar Products Used: You name it. |

Been using the 990''s since the first day they were introduced. I recently send them back to Titleist and had them switch my shafts from Rifle Tour Flighted 6.5 to TT DG-X100. I alway felt that they were solid all around. Ball flight has always been high with the DCI series. Distance is about average. You do have to be a solid ball striker to get the most out of the 990''s. 12 or lower. Customer Service Great! Took them two weeks to reshaft my irons. Similar Products Used: Titleist 962. |

I bought these irons last summer and I couldn''t be happier. I play with +1 handicap and I tried many clubs before choosing these. for example, ben hogan apex, callaway hawk eye VFT pro, taylor made 300 series, mizuno pro II... Still, these are the best, they are so easy but still have so excellent control on the ball... Try! Customer Service I just love these... Similar Products Used: Titleist |

I would agree with the others who have said that these clubs are like hitting a ball with a brick tied to an iron rod. Wow, they are absolutely the worst feeling set of irons I have ever had the misfortune of putting in my hands. I shoot in the low 80''s and high 70''s and feel as though I am a decent iron player. These clubs are absolutely terrible. I used to play the original DCI golds, which I can''t say enough good things about, and decided it was time to trade up. I am very loyal to Titleist clubs. I carry a 975F 3 wood and a 975J driver. Both of which are excellent. These iron are simply aweful. I have replaced them with Mizuno Pro II''s and even though they are pretty much forged blades, they are the best irons I have ever played or demoed. The 990''s have turned me away from Titleist irons forever. If you want to carry Titleist irons for the sake of carrying Titleist irons, buy some second had older pre-981 DCI''s. Customer Service Always slow with Titleist compared to other manufacturers. Similar Products Used: Original DCI Gold, DCI 981, Mizuno Pro II |

I''m a 4 handicap so take this advice seriously... these are the worst clubs I have ever played. They feel like a rock, have no spin, and are short on distance. I just sold mine, and I couldn''t be happier. If you''re thinking about getting this set, do yourself a favor and keep looking. If I never see another 990 in my life, it will be too soon. STAY AWAY!! These clubs are terrible. I just sold mine, and wouldn''t recommend them to my worst enemy. I''m a 4 handicap and these clubs killed my game. Expect to lose distance with these clubs. At least half a club shorter than anything you''re playing now. These clubs put NO spin on the ball either. Consider yourself lucky if you read this before purchasing, I''m saving you many frustrating afternoons on the golf course. If you already own these sticks, do yourself a favor and throw them in a pond at your favorite golf course as a sacrifice to the golf gods... that''s about all they''re good for. If I never see another 990, it will be too soon. Customer Service average Similar Products Used: a brick tied to a stick |

After being convinced by the local Pro Shop owner that game improvement clubs were the way to go for a "weekend" golfer like myself, I purchased the Cleveland Gunmetal TA5 irons. They had no feel so I sold them on Ebay and decided to try the clubs the Pro had told me not to buy. Let me say, these clubs are GREAT! If you have any type of repetitive swing, you can hit these clubs. Don''t listen to the people saying not to buy them. Try them first. Customer Service never used Similar Products Used: Cleveland TA5, Taylor Made Firesole, Taylor Made ICW |
