My purpose is to give potential buyers of this club an accurate review of the 990''s. The beginning of last year, I struggled to break 100. Then I took a series of 3 lessons. The lessons helped me a little. But I was glad that I was permitted to use the demo 990 clubs during my lesson. I hit them so pure that I ordered them off the internet with rifle shafts. I continued the season with some high scores, but I started to shoot in the low 90''s very consistently. Then I started to break 90. This year, during my first serious round of the year, I shot a 82. That is with 36 putts too! These clubs are forgiving enough to play everyday, but sweet enough to play really well when your swing is on. I played with cavity backs before and I admit that they keep disaster from happening on the course. However, if you are a serious golfer who wants a real club, buy the 990''s. Sometimes I am tempted to buy some forged blades but I just remind my self that the 990''s play like blades with a sweet feel, and on the days your swing is not perfect, they are just forgiving enough. This year, I am dedicated to stay with one set of irons and I hope that I will start shooting in the 70''s soon. My current distances are as follows: Pw 130, 9i 140, 8i 150, 7i 160, 6i 170, 5i 180, 4i 190, 3i 200. Sometimes when I am really hitting the ball well, I can stretch 5-10 yards more per club. The offset is just right to allow any skilled golfer to work the ball. I am glad I no longer need the excessive offset I used to have in my old callaway. Now that my swing is better, I can hit my Titleist 975D more consistently. Though Titleist uses lots of marketing to promote their clubs, I believe that the 990''s are made with the best design and quality. I have no idea why Titleist discontinued these. I tried the new 762''s and the 822''s and they feel clunky. The 990''s may be the last of the high quality irons Titleist has made. I am going to build my set around the 990''s and then check out woods, wedges, and putters from other companies. Buy the 990''s while you can, because they won''t be around forever. I am currently looking for a second set, just in case :) I hope this review has helped you in your iron purchase decision. Aim for the pin, because with the 990''s, your target is reachable. Customer Service I haven''t had any experience with the customer service at Titleist. Though, I have heard that Callaway has great service. Similar Products Used: Mizuno MP-14 (great clubs, 1/2 clubs shorter than the 990''s), Callaway x-14 (nice irons for the beginner, but once you start swinging better, the offset will promote a hook), Ping i3 blade (muted fee |

I''m a 8 hdcp. and I''ve been playing with the 990''s since they were first introduced. I originally had TT DG-S300 shafts in them and about three months ago I had Titleist put in Rifle Tour Flighted 6.5. I like the look of the Rifle shafts but the ball flight (high) and feel was the same as the TT DG. The 990''s are very consistant irons that requires a good swing in order to get the full benefits of the club. You can work the ball pretty good for a cast iron. The minute you get lazy with your swing you will loose distance and feel. Customer Service Got my irons back from Titleist within two weeks with the new Rifle shafts. None I bought these clubs in the spring with the (poor decision) idea that they would make me have to improve my swing. I''m to incosistant to use a club like this , I need more of a game improvement club. There is NOTHING wrong with the club. When I hit it good they go great & if the green isn''t hard as a rock they stop on a dime. I just mix too many offcenter hits into my game & these are not forgiving as my old berthas. A good golfer I play with hits them often during our rounds to compare them to his clubs & he wants to buy them. I think I''ll give up for now & sell them & go back to the Berthas. If you hit the club center & are able to work the ball you will like these clubs a lot. They are just made for a better player than me. The reason my review is so low is I''m reviewing them for the average golfer Customer Service never needed Similar Products Used: callaway |

None I have had these clubs ever since they first came out over two years ago. I was looking for something to replace my ancient Original DCI''s (Gold Triangle). I wanted something that would allow me to work the ball easier. I was originally thinking about going with the Mizuno Pro Forged, but decided to stick with Titleist. Glad I did, I could not be more happy with these clubs. The feedback these clubs give is fantastic, close to a blade, they are so easy to work right or left, however the ball flight is a littler higher than I''d like. In less than 6 months of practice with my new clubs I went from consistantly shooting in the low 80''s to consistantly shooting mid to low 70''s. The biggest factor in that was that the 990''s helped improve my GIR from 45% to 58%. Now if I could only improve my dismal up and down percentage of 35% I''m sure I could break into the 60''s every now and then. A little help in putting couldn''t hurt either with my 1.95 puts per GIR. Got married so no time for practice... scratch that... golf anymore, can''t handle her buying $50 in new clothes every time I play golf. All I''ve got now pretty much is "customer" golf. Now that the 990 is being replaced by the 762, I think it''s a great time for any mid to low handicapper looking for new clubs to pick up some 990''s on close out, I believe they still make the 990B, special order. Haven''t tried those yet, scared to. With as much as I''ve liked my 990''s I''m afraid I''ll like the 990B''s even more. Similar Products Used: Original Titleist DCI Gold |

None The 990s are not for the high handicap golfer. You do need to have a smooth tempo swing to see the benefit from these irons. If you have the herky jerky swing you will not enjoy these irons at all. When you have a smooth swing I suggest you use these clubs as they will reward you highly for the good swing and contact. They are pin seeking machines and stop the ball on a dime. You can put backspin on these just by looking at them before you hit the ball. On a clean hit they are the best feeling irons I ever hit and on mis hits they let you know you mis hit them.If you are looking to upgrade then look at these . None The 990 are good for me right now. When my swing becomes more consistant and I get a little older, or maby my senior year in highschool, I will consiter getting a blade like the MP-33 or the titleist forged prototype if they come out within 1 1/2 years. None I ordered these clubs 3-pw with 6.0 rifle shafts after I demoed the 990''s with different shafts. I definitely got a tighter shot dispersion with the Rifle shafts. After receiving the clubs and playing 5 months with them, I can honestly say that these irons allow me to aim for the pin. Most other irons are only accurate enough to aim at the green. These 990''s allow me to hit the ball closer in birdie range. The rifle shafts are spine aligned so I just have to worry about making a good swing. You definitely want a good swing to use these irons, but once you''ve practiced with these, remember, the ball will stick on the green. Most cavity back irons I have tried don''t stick the ball on the green (using the same type of ball). I have had a lot of birdie opportunities after hitting a 125 yard pitching wedge close to the pin. I can also hit more greens even with a drive that is in the rough because the small heads get the ball out with authority. There is a soft feel to these irons yet they are durable enough to not worry about bag dings. Once I drive and putt better I will be shooting in the 70''s. Accurate irons but they hit about 1/3 a club shorter than the more inaccurate callaway style clubs.
