Bought a sleeve at the course pro shop to see what all the fuss is about. Guess you have to be around a 5 to scratch to appreciate this ball, especially at the price. Found nothing about the ball that excited me enough to buy more. There's plenty of other comprables out there at more reasonable prices for us hackers. If you can justify the price by the improvment of your game with the Pro V1 then I should be seeing you in the final round on Sunday.

This ball is probably the best "compromise" ball out there. I have really noticed a difference since I started playing with them. I was really worried about durability as almost any solid ball will "shred" with all these bloody square grooved clubs out there but not the Pro V1. I have gotten at least 27 holes out of each ball before finally dunking it into the water, etc. For that reason alone they are worth the extra money. They look almost new after 18 holes as long as you don't hit a cart path or something similar. Goes nice and straight off the driver but you can still fade or draw if that is your shot. Full and half shots into the green hold well without that annoying dance you get with some spin balls not knowing if they will spin right or left after hitting. They don't putt quite as smoothly as the Strata but still very predictable. A real winner. I'm sold.

I think the ball performs at a high level. I have noticed no major differences than the original Pro V1, but this baby does spin less. I have been able to spin the Pro V1* and sometimes not. I think all the balls on the market today are very similiar it is just a matter of where your loyalties lie or how good you strike the ball when trying out many different makes. The reduction in price by Titleist is definately a win because now these balls are priced competitively with many other brands. I will use the Pro V1* for any tournaments as it is a money ball.

I had played the old professional for three years and hoped that these would be a suitable replacement with more distance. THe pro v1 is long but not very versatile as a performance ball. Compared to most premium balls, it is harder, flies higher and spins less. It might be a good ball for target golf in calm conditions, that''d be about it.

Model Reviewed: PRO V1 (star)

Off the tee, the "star" is about 7-12 yards longer than the original PRO V1, and the best thing is that you don''t have to "seam" it. Lower trajectory cuts into the wind better and provides more roll upon landing. Very stable flight characteristics. However...around the green, the "star" handles like a fully loaded garbage truck barrell-assing down an icy mountain slope. On fairly firm greens, this ball will not stop, not even with a flop shot. It acts more like a DT than a spin ball. If your club has form to hard greens, stay with the original PRO V1 or switch to a Strata or A10. On greens which hold pretty well, the ball works ok. Good for "target golf" style of play, but keep a 60 degree wedge in the bag if you don''t want to scream by the hole all day. Not a "five star" ball...which explains why there''s only one "star" on the ball. Personally, I think mid-handicappers will enjoy this ball, but low - scratch players will be better off with the original PRO V1, the NIKE DD or the A10. Sorry Titleist, but you screwed up on this one. Next model, try to add a little more stopping power...maybe halfway between the original and "star". Lastly, on putting...very unpredictable. Could be a problem with some insert putters, sometimes comes off the putter at warp 5, other times couldn''t reach the hole. My Odyessy White Hot putter didn''t like this ball at all, which is strange as the original PRO V1 reacted quite well. I''ll stay with the original for a while longer, thank you..

Customer Service

Titleist (Acushnet Golf) always seems to provide first rate service. Never a complaint with them in 25 years in the business. Thank God for that!

This is without a doubt the best ball I have ever played. Over the last year I have tried to find a ball to replace my beloved old Professional 90. I''ve tried the Precept Tour Premium, various Stratas, the original Pro V1, Nike TA DD and TW, along with the Maxfli A10. All either spun too much (Pro V1, A10) or were too scuffed after three or so holes to play any longer. So after much experimentation I came upon the Pro V1*. It is the most durable performance ball I''ve ever played, nor does it spin too much. I was tired of spinning everything from 8 iron to SW back anwhere from 6 to 20+ feet. As for distance this ball also leads the pack. All in all I have no complaints about this ball.

IF YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO PLAY THIS GAME WITH ANY REASONABLE AMOUNT OF SUCCESS (MID H.C. OR BETTER) THIS SHOULD BE THE BALL YOU PLAY. THIS BALL IS LONG OF THE TEE, WILL SPIN PLENTY IF YOU ARE A DECENT BALL STRIKER, VERY SOFT OFF THE PUTTER, AND VERY DURABLE. THE DURABILITY IS THE MAIN REASON THIS BALL SHOULD BE YOUR CHOICE, THIS BALL WILL LAST FOREVER IF YOU DON''''T LOSE IT. I THOUGHT THESE WERE ALL HYPE, THEN I DECIDED TO ACTUALLY TRY THEM, NOTHING COMPARES TO THIS BALL. IF YOU DON''''T LIKE THIS BALL, CHANCES ARE IT''''S YOU AND NOT THE BALL. ONE CAUTION: YOUR SWING SPEED SHOULD BE AT LEAST 100 MPH.

OK, so there is a mixed bag of reviews here. Let me say this about that. If your index is above 8, save your money. Otherwise, ignore the posts below complaining about this ball, because it absolutely rocks. Until playing with this ball, I really didn''t care much one way or the other. I could play a Professional. I could play a Precept, or just about any spin ball. It really didn''t make much difference. Heck, I''d pull a ball out of a lake in the middle of a round and just start playing it to see what it was all about. Then one day, I fished one of these out of a lake. Normally, I go through 4-5 spin balls per round either through beating them out of round, or losing them due to ballooning 300+ yard drives. This ball stayed with me for 2 rounds. When I finally drove it 10 yards too far and into a lake, I broke down and cried on the tee - for my pro shop was sold out at the time. The ball is truly unbelievable. I lose nothing in distance and gain everything in workability around the greens. If you are near scratch and are looking to improve your game, buy this ball. It is revolutionary in my opinion. And in my 20 years of playing scratch golf, I wouldn''t say that about any other ball.

Like the balls alot. I like to spin the ball and seem to leave it short most of the time.. Hard to hit it past the hole and spin it back... I have played this ball along side the reg pro v and the Tour Premium and it all comes down to confidence they are all so close.. The tour premium spins better but suffers slightly in distance. I will continue to hit the star ball.. ( Last 4 rounds i have averaged 5-6 over with no practice. ) A big confidence builder....

Great ball. They are long and have the right amount of spin. Are also great on the short game, and putt true.
