After reading various reviews and seeing all the tour wins, I just had to give the Pro V1 a try. First of all this ball is long. Real long. If you hit it on the nose it is going to be way out there. Big time. Against the wind, it is in a league of its own while being straight. It took me a while to become accustomed to approach shots with the Pro V1. It just did not give me the precise feel that I need in order to score. From sand it was real strong. Too strong. Also, I was long on more shots that I would like to be inside 100 yards with good strikes. If you do not hit an approach shot thin, then you can expect to be far further from the flag than you have been with other balls. It putts true, but is a little bit light for my touch. I believe that in time you can learn this ball, yet it is a process. Clearly I can understand why people love this ball, it enables you to be a club (or more on a par five)shorter to the flag with good all around characteristics. I don't love it. Perhaps it is a matter of individual taste. But is does not offer me the feel with Titleist Vokey wedges that the Callaway Red gives me, nor do I care for it from inside 150. The Callaway Red with a white hot putter is a much better match for my game. Personally, I believe this ball is so "hot" that it should be illegal. From my point of view I rate it a four stars, due to the fact it does not offer me the touch that I like. However, I realize that this may be unique to my game and players like me. I will stick to my Callaway Red. With that said, I believe you should give it a try to see if it fits you swing and style. I have seen many a review of the new ball, and they are exceedingly favorable. This ball, in distance, competes with many of the longest distance balls out there. I consistently send the pro v1 as far as a 'Prostaff bimetal distance' ball. The only downfall of this ball campared to a distance ball is a higher driver spin rate, but this can be desirable for those who wish to play a draw or fade. In to the greens, this does hold, but not as much as the Tour Accuracy, but plenty is nonetheless present. As to feel, this compares slightly harder than a professional. Indeed, this ball's strength is not its overwhelming strength in any area, but its lack of any weaknesses. Customer Service N/A. I tested the distance against the Top-Flite XL2000 magna distance. I hit 3 woods with each ball and they both flew 195 yds. Obviously, I do not have the fastest swing speed in the world as the distance implies, but I hit that club very consistently, so that was my model. I guess I couldn't exactly to expect the same results from a ball as a pro would get, so maybe you have to be a longer hitter to get the best results. I like the feel around the greens for sure and the putting feels nice with that rubbery sound in the cup. If you have a lot of money, it's a great ball, but you feel real bad if you start loosing them as I experienced at some of the Pinehurst courses this spring. I went back to my XL2000 magna's to avoid the $4 a ball penalty in addition to the penalty strokes. The XL2000 magna may not have quite the soft feel as the ProV1, but it sits down well on the greens by any standard. Similar Products Used: Top Flite XL2000 magna distance. |

I liked this ball a lot, and it wasn't because of the distance. The "solid" feel off the irons gave confidence, and full shots got great spin. I didn't quite like the feeling of the ball around the greens at first. I didn't feel quite connected to the ball. And distance-control seemed awkward. But I got used to it after a while. I still prefer the Nike Tour Accuracy, however. Even though it scratches and scuffs more easily, the Nike ball makes you feeel like you're in tune with the ball, and it putts truer as well. The Pro V-1 is a great ball, but I don't believe it warrants all the hoopla it's generated Similar Products Used: Nike Tour Accuracy, Nike Tour Accuracy TW, Titleist Tour Prestige, Titleist Tour Professional, Callaway Rule 35 (soft feel), Strata Tour Professional, Strata Tour Ultimate, Maxfli Revolution |
